Hello:
Just joined and will need help with packing and lighting but for now, the introduction.
I have been a long time collector/smoker of rare and hard to find cigars. Ten years ago, I took up the pipe and became addicted buying tons of tobacco and lots of pipes, but I just couldn't get the packing and lighting correct and lost interest due to relighting and burnt tongue. LOL
Last week I finally decided to sell my large collection of pipes, tobacco and accessories and in the process of inventorying everything to list it on Craigslist I became interested again. I am still going to sell 90% of what I have but it just wouldn't be right to not smoke an occasional bowl in my new man-cave.
I hope to read enough and practice enough to get beyond the constant relight and be able to enjoy occasionally smoking something a little less powerful than an Opus X cigar.
High hopes!

Welcome from Ohio. 90% of problems can be eliminated by using properly humidified tobacco. Most all tobacco comes much too moist. Set it out to dry for a couple hours. If you pinch it together and it clumps up it is too moist. If you pinch it together and it comes apart it should smoke MUCH better.

Welcome from the Show Me State! I'm sure you'll find a bunch of willing buyers of your tobacco and pipes. Do your homework before you sell, however.

Welcome. What part of Ohio? I'm in the Youngstown area. My brother lives in the Springfield area and this is not far from him...he really likes the club. www.thewharf.com/page.cfm?page=134Before you sell off your pipes, I suggest attending a pipe club and getting some advice and suggestions, there is no substitute for hands on interaction especially with the variances in tobaccos...plugs are far different than shag cut, but it isn't rocket science either....the forum has great value also for those not near a pipe club. Welcome to to the forum.

Welcome to the Patch Stone! Lots of good folks around here and good advice as well. My best advice is, don't sell those pipes and your tobacco quite yet. Give it some time as you perfect your technique; you might find some gems in your stash. You can always sell them later!

Thanks again! As I practice a little more I think I was smoking tobacco that was too moist. I am settling into a few pipes I will keep and I will consider the advice that everyone is giving me to keep the tobacco, although I honestly don't think I could ever smoke it all.
Famous last words?
