I purchased several 12 oz cans of Captain Black tobacco, and the cans are probably cardboard with some sort of foil liner (?). The last time I bought a 'can' of Captain Black, it was actually a tin can!
Should I transfer this to a canning jar(s), or is it ok to store as-is for several years? My guess is that canning jars is best, but wanted to check in with the helpful folks here, as I'm a newbie following a 20+ year break from smoking pipes. Appreciate your thoughts.

Those 12oz cans are tougher than one would think. But if you have Mason or Ball jars on hand with the screw on tops you could transfer it for something to do.

One of my grandfathers Granger metal tubs had over 20 tiny rust holes towards the bottom of the tub. So, if long term is what you have in mind I’d use Mason or Ball jars as well. Have fun👌👍👍

I would agree. It depends on how long you're wanting to cellar. If it's long term then you may want to avoid rust etc. damaging the tobacco... especially if Ted has experienced this first hand.

Thanks for your advice friends. Rust is a myth here in Idaho, but my pint size Kerr jars seem to be the best solution. :-)

Transfer to Mason, Ball or Kerr jars. They're all the same. Safest approach.

Yes, jars for quantity. If you want 1 can for smoking, place the entire tub (unemptied) in a large Zip lock bag and it will be fine for 6 months.
