This is all so helpful! I am reaching the conclusion that trying to decide which pipes to keep when I don't even know how to smoke a good bowl is like trying to decide what girl you want to marry without having ever met any of them.
At this point, I go for the beautiful, cool, unique pipes because I don't know how to tell a good smoking pipe from a bad smoking pipe yet.
Here I go again. LOL

Here are a couple images of the unknown French Briar. A couple distinguishing characteristics are the step in the rim and the blank panel on the bottom near the stem.
...crap. I'd keep that one... Me too, love it

Learn how to fill, pack, light and tamp your pipe well then try the lot of them. The pipes will tell you whether or not to keep them.

Toss everything except blasted pipes and focus on pre '68 Shell and Bruyere series Dunhill and pre '85 Edwards . Don't need anything else If he relied on Dunhills, he'd give up smoking altogether. They do make nice plant containers though.

Does anyone see any pipes they can comment on as far as smoking characteristics or quality? Pipe smoking is more about technique than equipment. With the right packing and cadence, you can make any of them sing.
