I just blended up 75% Sutliff 515 RC-1, 15% Sutliff Red Ribbon, and 10% Perique. I jarred it, and stuck it in the oven. After it's stoved and cooled, I'll be putting into my new "Pasta Press" to get "plugged" for about a week. Thanks to McWiggins for the inspiration to try home pressing. I have a similar experiment going. I stoved a batch and pressed some for a week and now it's in a jar to age a little. I'm building a press so I can do a larger plug or puck. That McWiggins sure is a bad influence since he guided me on stoving and pressing also.

Where does that lie in my "pipes, and things pipe" budget, though? I better get making some more pipes...

I had some oak block laying around and some 2",1 1/2" and 1" heavy wall copper pipe along with stainless all thread rod so I'm trying to make a larger scale screw press.

That actually sounds interesting. I'm not much into aromatics at the moment but with the addition of Virginia and Perique that could make for an interesting light VaPer aromatic...

I love me some stoving and pressing. Remember to let that batch sit for a week or two in the jar so any moisture that is forced out of the tobacco can be reabsorbed. As for going bigger when it comes to pressing, a welded box and one of these would be really nice me thinks.

My bad! I thought RC-1 was an aromatic. I think Sutliff blend names confuse me... Sutliff does do a lot of aromatics but once one ventures outside of those they will find some really good tobacco. That 515 RC-1 is amazing along with Virginia Slices, Lavish English and more. The new Crumble Kakes are great and even the aromatic crossovers are good too, even if one isnt into aromatics. Aromatic English is a great blend and for me fits well into the summer months.

Kind of in the realm of semantics...
But pressed loose leaf is crumble cake, pressed whole leaf is plug.
Regardless, I am sure you will be rewarded for your effort..
In marriage, being under stress and having weight on you can be problematic.
In pressing tobacco under marriage, the one doing the pressing and stress gets the reward.

True, it's technically a crumble kake, but if you've had any of McWiggins presses, they're so dense they're the consistency of plug. A HARD plug. The 515 RC-1 press he gave me a couple months ago was actually hard to cut.

Sounds like a tasty mix, Jason! My press is the 6 ton version of the shop press shown above and is, generally, too much power. The first plug I ever did in it came out like a hockey puck. Lol

You guys have to be careful if you are going to use a shop press. When I first started making plugs many moons ago I put the tobacco in my shop press and pressed the beejesus out of it... I still have that hockey puck laying around somewhere.

I am about to press some tobac for the first time as well. I did do a blend, not pressed, of 515-RC1 / perique and found it a little too mellow. I plan on doing a blend of 507s stoved Virginia, 515-RC1 red Virginia, perique and maybe some burley on the next experiment.
There was some sage advice I found on another forum that I had not seen anywhere else. If this is taboo to repost then the mods can feel free to delete this post but I found it informative.

A virtue of the Noodle Press is if you manage to press a terrible smoking blend, you’ve not wasted a lot of tobacco. My largest puck thus far has been 80g and I think I’ll stick to that total weight

First, I just got to smoke a bowl of this blend with Cramptholomew and its pretty good. Very young and needs some time on it but over all, I like it. Pressed could be an interesting thing to do with it. Second, I recently tried the noodle/pasta press thing and for me, it doesnt work. I cannot get to the pressure amount that I use without busting the ends off of it. The only thing I have found currently that works well for me is a pollen press. It works with less tobacco but I can crank down on it much harder and put more pressure on the tobacco. If I crank hard enough I tend to end up with something as hard as a plug. It was an interesting idea though.

Here's what I ended up with. I tried the blend before pressing, and it had PRONOUNCED vinegar and sour notes. Not in a bad way, but it was strong. The blend was left to press for 6 days, and the outcome was a small black puck, with a wonderful aroma. It still had a tinge of vinegar to it, but it was greatly subdued. I cut off a chunk, rubbed it out, and set to dry for 2 hours. The blend was well melded, and the pronounced sour notes were no longer there. This turned into a nice, smooth VaPer, that I imagine will improve over time. I did a 75/25 515-RC-1/Perique blend yesterday (unstoved), and have that in the press now. It will emerge on Monday.

That looks nice. Are you going to make more? Yeah, I need more Sutliff Red Ribbon. I have enough 515 and Perique. I'm trying just the 515 and Perique, unstoved, for this next batch. 80g (60g 515, 20g Perique).

I did a blend of 515 RC-1 with a much higher perique content. Blend and smoked, ho hum. Put the jar on the shelf and 5 months later magic! Spiced up considerably.
Took that blend and added about 13% 507-S and put it in the noodle press for a 50g cake. Been in there since Friday. Sooo tempted to pop it open and see how it does but I may wait for the weekend.
