After opening the bag I had for 10 - 12 years it donned on me that I could possibly have sold it for a lot of money if I'd known exactly when I bought it.
Is there any marking, stamping, dating that I could look for? The only thing I see is number of 10042 on the Stonehaven label on outside of the bag and the tray inside is embossed with "DMD 2000" and "DMD0"

The primary question now is what do you think of the Stonehaven? It's not good for anything else now except trading with the rest of us here.

At the time I bought it, 10 - 12 years ago, I bought two 8 oz bags and opened one of them, the other remained sealed until a day of so ago. I have smoked some of the bag I opened way back when and I love it. I haven't tried the one that has remained sealed but I can tell you that despite both being bought at the same time they have distinctly different smells.
I would be happy to trade as the Stonehaven is the only "coveted" tobacco I have at this point. I tried to get some other Esoterica when I saw threads here but I was too late

If you're just looking to get back in the game, I'm sure there are some good folk here who would trade back some good stuff in exchange for Stonehaven. There is a thread specifically dedicated for trade or sale.

Someone, maybe on reddit, was trying to organize a list of the number codes to try and establish a dating estimate. I am not sure how far they got with the project. I just googled reddit dating estoerica and the first link was it. He didnt get very far but it looks like it might work for your date range.

On the left bottom are a series of numbers. There should be 6 numbers.

I read that article and I guess that is some indication but I don't know if lot numbers of Stonehaven had anything to do with lot numbers of other Esoterica tobacco? He is talking specifically about Penzance.

Those tan bags generic labels with the sticker bring serious money. Any change in packaging is a clue to age the with Esoterica. Sealed aged VA's like Stonehaven are blue chip.

Lot # 10073 (8oz. bag and 2oz. tin) = 2010
Lot # 10064 (8oz. bag) = 2010
Lot #9123 (8oz. bag and 2oz. tin) = 2010
So your bag would fall into 2010.

The cream colored bags gave way to the gold colored bags in either 2011 or 2012. The gold colored bags can be roughly dated by the first digit in the job number. For example, if the first digit is a "4", the bag dates from around September of 2013 to September of 2014. They don't precisely line up to the calendar year. I noticed this when I looked at the number on a bag and compared it to the date I had written on the same bag. A number of other buyers have noticed this as well. A cream colored bag of Stonehaven will fetch around $400 or more on eBay. I've seen them go for as much as $595.

I think at some point I will try to trade some of it with the fine folks here.
