We Peterson's collectors have long accepted as fact that many "pre-Republic" Petes could be identified by the use of the circle MADE IN IRELAND stamp or the MADE IN over IRELAND mark, and that when Ireland became a republic, the stamp was changed to MADE IN THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND. In the long-awaited "The Peterson Pipe" by Irwin and Malmberg the authors note, regarding the MADE IN IRELAND marking, as follows: "(c.1945-1972) . . . No reliable evidence exists to suggest it was used before WWII. Documented examples appear on models from 1945 until the late '70s." (page 296)
This iconoclastic observation implies big changes in Peterson collecting and, more than likely, will likely affect prices.

That's definitely a game changer. Apparently, I'd been wrong about that one for years...

That book is a must have for me....I am not a Peterson collector by any stretch, but I am a history buff.
Thanks for the post.

Pipe club members could offset the cost by a group buy.
