I will admit, I like smoking cobs. I tend to use them for aros, and my briars are getting more and more dedicated to non-aros. But, I was never a fan of the look of cobs. So, when Walt offered to stain some for me, I jumped on it. And, as you can see from the pictures below, it was a wonderful investment!! The turn around was about a week, and he through in a free tamper. I could not be happier

Glad you like it..cobs are fun to do...they look so much better when they are stained and glazed...makes me want to take them out when I am on the road.

Very cool pipes Walt! Wasn't Lady M doing some custom cobs about a year ago? I've done a little messing around with a couple too, but mostly just making them more practical. About a year ago I picked up an unsmoked MM Freehand that was the original design that had no cap on the end of the shank, so the shank had a tendency to split, which was what mine was like. I glued and clamped it to fix it, but a few smokes later it split again. So I ended up gluing it back again, only this time I found a split ring to slide over the end of the shank and glued it in place. Works great, but I'm not sure I like the silver look, so I might end up painting it black.

I find that the quality of the looks of a stained cob makes such a big difference in appearance, that I wind up smoking them, as against my briars and meers. I smoke the cobs about 3 times more than the briars and meers...all because Piffy showed us a stained cob...and Paddy painted his and that looked so terrific that I did both and smoke both types of cobs...painted and stained.
I think I remember Lady M. doing the same thing a year or two ago...and speaking of Lady M....where is she? Has anyone heard from her recently? She is a pillar of the community and I sure hope she is doing OK...cause we miss her.
