Son is in Yokohama on Business, texted me on his way to The Japanese Sword Museum, this is the place where the faithful dog waited for 7 years after his master died. It was a train station and he would greet him on back from work. They don't allow pictures in Sword Musuem.

Brad, I have been told that is one heck of a collection. I would love to see it. Your son is fortunate.

Thanks for sharing this. I am a bit of a Japanophile and very much a dog lover. Iβve heard this story before and itβs pretty heart warming to say the least. I am happy for your son, but also a little jealous π!

That would be fascinating (the Sword museum). They really understood metallurgy from long ago.

What a great trip he has been on. Brad, I know you are proud of him and the way he has led his life...you were the one who gave him his inspiration to be the kind of man he is today. I, too, would love to visit this museum...their understanding of metallurgy is simply put, amazing. My prize possessions are few, but I take great joy from using them. A kitchen set of Damascus blades, a 8"chef and a 4" paring knife. My plug knives are Damascus also...they are strong and beautiful. I've enclosed pictures of them.

I would love to go there, though I admit I don't own a sword (they're kinda expensive). I do have a halberd, poleaxe, warhammer and mace though Sad they don't allow pictures, I wonder why?

My father flew in the Pacific in WW2 and was part of the post war occupation force. He once told me that if his father did not need his help with the family business he would never have returned, he loved the country so much (in which case I wouldn't be here on the Patch today). He had acquired quite a bit of memorabilia, including several Samurai swords. Most of his stuff was shipped back to the States right at the end of the war and that ship was sunk by a Japanese sub that didn't know the war was over. However he kept one Samurai sword with him and returned with it. I have that sword today. The hilt is completely deteriorated but the steel is in amazing condition. That baby stays oiled and in storage.

Thanks for sharing Brad, being a knife maker at one time and a collector I really appreciate any posts that have to do with swords and knives. Sounds like your son is having a great timeππππ
