Ok, so with a few companies now out of the mix, please share how you rate the remaining companies by quality of tobacco and blends overall. I will start, but I am no expert. Top 3 or more appreciated, as well as, any commentary.

G&H have been my favorite, with SG following closely behind...SToP who had the War Horse, Bengal Slices and John Cotton blends are right up there also.

Sutliff and STG have given me the greatest return on my investment.

1. Samuel Gawith - tried and true for over 200 yrs and IMO make the best Va Flakes available. For English lovers, they also have some great mixtures like Commonwealth, Skiff, Balkan, and Squadron Leader.
2. Gawith Hoggarth - again tried and true for well over 100 years. The tobacco is consistently top notch, and despite the multitude of Lakeland essence filled mixtures, they do make a little something for everyone, including straight Va’s, Dark fired Kentucky blends, English mixtures, ropes, and even American style aromatics.
3. Peretti’s - even though they source primarily from Sutliffe, they still blend in house, and as far as I know, they are still sourcing individual Oriental components as well. They have been around since 1870, and are hard to beat when it comes to traditional English mixtures or Burley blends.
Looking at my list, I think my preferences lie with long standing companies that have been making tobacco mixtures for over 100 years. They all seem to stay loyal to their namesake and history, and especially in the case of the Gawith’s, they continue to use old school equipment and old world manufacturing techniques, and they value integrity and quality over rushing their manufacturing just to meet demand. Just my opinion of course...

Interestingly, of those that have been chosen so far, most of them are available in the UK... Thank goodness for that.
I would chose...

I can't rate by brand, only by blend. From the standpoint of quality, it's are to beat Kolhase and Kopp, the folks who bring you Rattray's, Freibourg & Treyer, and HU, among other top blends; Mac Baren, who brings you Doblone d'Oro, St Bruno, and many other fine blends; GL Pease for Haddo's, Telegraph Hill and Union Square, Germain's for Dunbar, Dorchester, Tilbury, and a couple of highly obsessed over unicorns; Gawith for St James and Full Virginia Flakes; Sutliff for the RO Perique series and many other much loved blends; Wessex, and a few others. For the most part, I'm not a big fan of either STG or C&D. I m not much of a burley smoker, which is where C&D shines. Their Virginias are only so so, though I like Yorktown quite a bit. STG strikes me as the McDonalds of the tobacco world.

Everything I have deeply cellared is from Kolhase and Kopp: Wessex Brigade Campaign Dark Flake, Fribourg & Treyer Special Brown Flake and Cut Blended Plug, and McConnell's Scottish Cake and Scottish Flake.

Mac Baren and Sutliff both produce excellent tobaccos as well.

Right now I'd have to say Mac Baren and K&K because between all their sub-brands they make so many great blends, as others have noted.
The difficult thing would be choosing the third, between SG, GH, and Germain.

Most of what I smoke and enjoy daily is made by Orlik/STG followed by McClelland and Lane/STG.

Try Sterling Tobacco. Jack Peterson has a very nice selection of blends where anyone can find something to enjoy!

Purely subjective. Some people like Esoterica. Some people like Super Value. Smoke what you like. Period.

Purely subjective. Some people like Esoterica. Some people like Super Value. Smoke what you like. Period. A perfect example of how everyone's taste can vary! I enjoy Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic and Carter Hall, both are inexpensive old aromatic OTC blends available at your local drug store or supermarket.
I also love Bengal Slices and Plum Pudding which are non aro Balkan style blends that taste great and are found in pipe shops or better cigar shops that also sell pipes and pipe tobacco. Lets move on to Esoterica tobacco, I LOVE the blend named "And So To Bed" and that tobacco is as hard to come by as a Boss 429 Mustang so be ready to pay top dollar for it because many places sell it at a premium price due to it being a hard to come by blend.
So yes, find what you like and forget what everyone else tells you what you "should" smoke!

STG strikes me as the McDonalds of the tobacco world. Good assessment, sablebrush. If I were to rank blenders my top 3 would include MacBaren HH line, and other MacB's, GL Pease, Seattle Pipe Club (because of their Plum Pudding). Germain is quite good but really hard to get here in the States. I believe Sam Gawith got folded into the Gawith Hogarth line, but not entirely sure. But if you can still get them, they have some fine blends. I agree with sable brush on Cornell and Diehl. I'm not a Burley fan so don't smoke many of theirs, other than the Latakia heavies.

For me, its all subjective and very personal. I've had good and bad tobacco from basic bulk producers to others making blends that drive the market in a frenzy when available.

This thread shows a lot of you respect G&H and since I have never tried any, I will do some research and try a few out soon.

If you don't know and you plan to look into them as a new experience, make sure you learn about Lakeland. If that is a new thing to you ording some G&H could hit you with quite a surprise. Not all blends are a Lakeland but when it is and you don't know it is and it's new...... it's a combination for the most shocking thing on the planet.

I agree personal experience speaking a couple years ago I bought some bosun cut plug unscented only to find out it was Lakeland just not as intense as the scented version. If I had checked on tobacco reviews beforehand I would have known and would have been better prepared. It wasn't bad and I do like it just wasn't expecting the Lakeland essence.

Of the three top producers for me, McClelland & Dunhill, having gone away that just leaves STG/Orlik !
