I'm Mike 'Doc' Garr and I am the current president of the United Pipe Clubs of America as well as Vice-President of the Americas in the Comite International des Pipe Clubs (CIPC) and president of our local pipe club in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Justin had informed me that he was creating this forum and encouraged me to contribute. So I am. Greetings from UPCA!
One of the goals of UPCA is to help promote pipe clubs and facilitate communication among pipe clubs. This forum helps to fulfill this goal.
UPCA also encourages and promotes pipe smoking contests. We run the national contest in May at the Chicago pipe show and support several regional contests in Washington state, New York and South Carolina. I encourage you if you are going to Chicago to sign up for the smoking contest. Great fun and great prizes. If interested plan to be at the show Sunday afternoon. That's when we hold the contest.
Also, UPCA maintains a website at United Pipe Clubs of America and a Facebook page at UPCA Facebook.
Finally, if you belong to a pipe club that is not a member of UPCA consider joining the UPCA and be part of the worldwide community of pipe clubs and pipe smokers.
And don't forget that this Saturday is International Pipe Smoking Day. Smoke a corn cob, take a picture, post it on the forum and maybe win a prize! CIPC, of which UPCA is a member, is holding a contest. The three best pictures of IPSD will win a prize. The decision will be made in October at the annual meeting of the CIPC. Then the world pipe smoking contest will be held. If you want to be a member of the American team, contact me. The contest and meeting are being held in Nitra, Slovakia this year.
