No...that wasn't me...close to the action, but fortunately spared the bad actors.

Miami, back then, was a curious place...had a friend who used to serve dinners in her home, where you could sit next to legislators as well as drug smugglers...the rules were "no bullets, no bodies"...that was it.

We get an occasional English member, but they don't seem to stick. 2 Irish members, perhaps their more egalitarian?

My comment was tongue and cheek and meant to be comical. In the eighties, though still a kid, things were not nearly as bad as portrayed in media. If you wanted trouble you could find it, though most lived peaceably without taking part in illegal practices.
I was born in Dade County and enjoyed my time there with many friends from around the globe. Cigars are king in South Florida as Cuban immigrants influenced the scene for obvious reasons. This is one reason I started my enjoyment of tobacco products.

The media didn't know a quarter of what was taking place...not like on tv or in the newspapers...they had no clue, no idea what was taking place. Dade county was divided into "turfs" and was not discussed unless you were involved...business wasn't done on the streets...it was done in the Bahamas and in the Gulf of Mexico...about 15 miles out.

I describe the day to day experience of folks in Miami not involved in the drug trade. I lived through it as well. The media, including movies etc., did not have to know/report all the details to give a general portrait that fits a narrative that is all too familiar. If you were law enforcement, somehow involved with the trade or unfortunate to be caught in the middle you might have seen more. My narrative stems from a different side, one that while aware of the murders occurring and other facts kept it clean and saw no trouble.

Yes, you are correct in your interpretation...most of the folks in Miami led a totally different life style than those caught up in the various turf disputes.

That would be Frank Valentine....yeah he really disappeared....a really nice guy, that Strang order he did was a very nice thing to do. He doesn't come up on the member search...maybe it was all a dream, but I still have Strang.
