So I came down with a bad case of the flu last week. It's still with me. I won't be able to enjoy my cellar in my last week in the USA. Next winter I'll be able to have a pipe or two out of those old jars. I have travel plans at the end of the week. I should be better by then but these things always happen at the most inopportune moments. Of course, at 70, having the flu is no laughing matter, either. I never get the shot because it always makes me as sick as the flu does. Has anyone else had the flu this year? This is a nasty virus. Good luck to everyone in avoiding it.

Hope you recover fast.
Its been a bad season for sure. The nation is currently in round two for the season but my wife, despite getting the shot got hit three times this year. First with an odd variant, then tybe B and then type A. She worked in a local Hospital for the first two rounds and everyone was getting nailed and for round three she had just changed jobs to a care facility. They are all just now recovering and working with a full staff.
I on the other hand avoided it. Walked away this season with only a mild cold. *knock on wood*

Feel better UPS, hope your much better when it’s travel time for you once again!! I don’t know if it’s my meds, not mingling in public often, I have not had a cold in 3 plus years and thank God I never had the Flu. Would that make me one of the lucky ones......lol.
I have enough health issues I’m dealing with daily, my body right now wouldn’t handle the Flu well at all. Nope, I don’t get a Flu shot, due to severe BP reactions I’ve had twice.

While not influenza, I had chest infections on and off for most of the winter from November into March. Hospital ER once. Pneumonia and bronchitis over and over.
Washing hands like a germ-o-phobe, avoiding crowds, keeping current on vaccinations.

I've been very fortunate...like Ted, I haven't had a cold or the flu in over 6 years...course I hardly go out of the house, don't like people much (except, of course, the Patch) so that has probably been the reason I haven't been sick, but like Ted and some others we have other medical issues that I wouldn't wish on anyone...so not having the flu or a cold is mild compared to the other issues we have.

Sorry to here you are sick. I have a history of asthma so I get a flu shot every year. So far so good. I’ve been hearing that there has been a later than usual flu outbreak this year. Get well soon.

Drink lots of water! Stay hydrated! Just out of curiosity, did you have a flu shot and if so, how long did the flu last? For science of course . . .

The flu began last Friday and it's still pulling strong. I have a mild fever but I'm getting through this. I feel a little better today. I would recommend that people keep their hands washed and avoid coughing and sneezing people. This flu virus is no joke. There were times I thought I was on deaths doorstep. I keep drinking water but I don't seem to be excreting it - it's almost like my body is retaining it somehow to fight off the infection. This is one nasty, nasty flu virus. I think by Friday it should fizzle out. Stay healthy folks. You know, the flu kills people. Stay safe

Hope you're feeling better soon, UPS. The flu shot usually makes me sick too, even though they say it's impossible.

Raises my Bap to outer limits, haven’t had a flu shot since 2011. In all that time I only suffered with one severe cold for about a week. FEEL BETTER REAL SOON UPS🎈🌷🌹🎈🌷🌹🎈🌷🌹🎈🌷🌹

My allergies really kicked up badly on a rare visit to the pipe club meeting at Ye Olde Tobacconist a couple of months ago. I pushed away from the table everytime I sneezed, and turned away from everyone.... the look on several faces at the table made me feel as welcome as a leper.
I didn’t take it personal, but felt bad that they thought I would be so rude as to attend, dragging a virus to their table... my allergies ratcheted up enroute to that meeting.

When most of your family is a medical professional and you even married a woman who has worked nothing but medical jobs since high school, you learn to cough and sneeze into your elbow if you have nothing else. Lord help you if you do otherwise. There will be a stiff reminder. lol Also, feeling sick and even getting a small fever is/can be normal after a flu shot. Its one's immune system kicking in and learning the virus and developing antibodies. It can't always protect the person though. Immune issues can be a factor but ussually its due to catching another strain than what is in that years flu shot. Its progressively becoming less effective as time goes by.

After exhibiting a few flu symptoms in January, my eyes rolled back and I went unresponsive. Wife called 911, and it turned out to be a real bad case of Flu A. I could not work for 2 weeks, and wasn't feeling back to "mostly normal" until 3 weeks. They closed a large school here in upstate SC because several hundred kids had been confirmed as well. Man I'm glad that's behind me. I'm not young...but now I know why the flu kills the elderly.

Feel better soon. We’ve had several bouts with the flu this past winter. Drink plenty of Gatorade and rest.

Last time I was hospitalized I came home sicker with a severe stomach virus. Those greedy accountants at the hospital tried charging the insurance company for two different types of STD's blood work. My wife called the insurance company and the insurance guy said that it is common practice for hospitals to add on unecessary blood work just to run the bill up.
