Greetings,
a pipe acquisition from last year has a loose silver ring in front of the stem. Not quite sure how to approach fixing it, if possible. When I say loose I mean it will fall off. Inserting the stem more firmly does not help.
i can post a pic if necessary, but I figured I'd gather your initial thoughts. I hope it is not literally defective -- too late to return to vendor.
I'm about as mechanical as a drunk toddler, so I'm hoping this is an easy, common-sense fix.
Thanks

It may be that smoking the pipe will restore it to firmly on. Why? Some pipes get very desiccated in the shop*, warehouse or wherever. Smoking it will introduce moisture slowly, and the briar will expand imperceptibly but perhaps enough to make the ring tight.
And photos of personal pipes are always welcome!
* Happened to a pipe I bought in Santa Fe, where the ambient humidity is very low. Ring now snug as can be. Took 4-5 months.

Put a drop of epoxy on the inside of the ring, not on the shank, and slide it back on.
