I was able to buy a lot of things from a young man today who was selling all of his grandfathers pipe smoking stuff do to his recent death.
Along with many many other things, I got a 7 oz can of Borkum Riff bourbon whiskey and a 12 oz can of Sir Walter Raleigh aromatic, both unopened.
I read the reviews on Tobacco reviews and they sound terrible but I look at smoking pipes and P&C and the reviews seem quite favorable?

I will always keep some SWRA around. It's a good smoke when I dont know what I want to smoke. It's also a good smoke when I want it.
I cannot speak of the other, it has never found it's way into my pipe.

I always have a pouch of SWRA around. A nice simple smoke when you don't want to think about what you're smoking. The Borkum Riff I didn't much care for.

Like any blend, its up to one's taste. Both are OTC blends that are basic and never claim to be more than what they are. Many people do look down on them while others enjoy them for what they are.
If you compare them to higher grade blends, it would be like comparing a fancy restaurant to McDonald's.
In my opinion, you should give them a try and be open minded. If you don't like it, then you don't like it but they and others in the same category shouldn't be dismissed because of how simple they are.

I really like SWRA. I've never had Borkum Riff, but it sells well, so somebody must like it.

They're cheap enough to buy a pouch of each. If you like it, then you have more for the future.

Borkum Riff Bourbon Whiskey is very bitey. Be careful with the puffing pace on that one.

If you compare them to higher grade blends, it would be like comparing a fancy restaurant to McDonald's. I like this analogy. It is not meant to be pejorative. Sometimes a Wendy's double baconator is unspeakably wonderful. I have not tried the blends in question, but I do not think folks who like them have inferior taste or are lying. I am a fan of Carter Hall myself. When you want it, it is exactly what you want.

My uncle smoked Borkum Riff Bourbon Whiskey ever since it was introduced. I have smoked it & not bad enough to throw it away, I just don't care for aromatics anymore. I bet if you try both you will keep it. Even for certain occasions. Sometimes hamburger is better than a filet.
