In the purchase I made yesterday I got two new Paykoc meerschaums in the cases. Meerschaums have always been such a mystery because they can be $25 or they can be $300 and I can't find anything on Paykoc's site explaining any reason. And have yet to find any of the 6 or 7 Paykoc meerschaums I own on their web site? I wanted to see if I could find out where some of my meerschaums fall so I figured I would ask a few general questions: 1. Is Paykoc a solid company? The cases say "Genuine Block Meerschaum Hand Carved" but I don't know if that means they are "quality" 2. Are the prices on Paykoc's website realistic?
3. In the picture below, these two pipes are virtually the same size and same "smooth" style. What makes one worth 3 X the other?
These are the two I bought yesterday

Paykoc is an old company...I remember them from the 60-70's when teir pipes were available. As far as prices go...realistic? Yeah, meers can go for many different prices usually depending on the carving of them. Why one smooth can be $55.00 and the other $140.00...can't give you a reason for that. The pipes you bought are beautiful in looks and should be terrific smokers...don't know if they are push-pull types or threaded...whichever they are you got a great set of meers to smoke...and that is really all you can ask for. Fill them up and enjoy the White Goddess. That is what some call them.

Paykoc, if I remember correctly is an importer of Meerschaum Pipes and other goods made in Turkey. I own two that have been packed away for some time. Both excellent smokers and made from block Meerschaum.......not pressed Meerschaum powder with a resin added. I own a very old Paykoc coffee mug made in Turkey as well......very high quality. Enjoy those two beauties 👌👍👍

Your two meers are beautiful ! Depending on your current age, if you smoke each one at least twice a week they shuld be showing some nice color by the time you die!

Try Altinay meerschaum, I have several and they are all outstanding quality.

Charlie Paykoc (pronounced, pie–coach) Has a solid reputation as an importer, he sources pipes from more than one place in Turkey, and only deals in Block Meerschaum which is preferred over pressed Meerschaum.
I agree, sometimes pricing seems quite arbitrary on Meerschaum pipes... a lot of times the less expensive ones appeal to me the most.
They have a retail store in Denver, if I lived closer I would drop in.

Paykoc is a very good brand. There are others, like IMP. The price reflects the same factors you find in expensive briars: the carver and the quality of Meerschaum. Not all Meerschaum is created equally. Deep mined Meerschaum is far better quality and more expensive than shallow mined Meerschaum.
