Out with Shweetie running errands and stopped in the only pipe shop around. It was sad, all plastic and glass pipes, rap music, some cheap pipes in a small case and dusty pouches of Borkum Riff. But I spotted a dusty 14oz jar of Carter Hall up on a top shelf. I've never tried it, but you guys talk abut it, so I had the kid fetch it down. The price tag was $97.00. Not even kidding. I pulled up pipesandcigars on my phone and they have it for 38.00. I showed the kid, and he said the owner probably don't even know it's here, would I give him $40.00? I did, no shipping and no waiting. I know what I'm trying tonight when I get home.

Gonna guess that $40 didn't find its way into the register

Nice score, and nicely handled, bigwoolie. I wonder how old it is.

A fair price, all things considered. I grabbed 8 oz of CBK from a similar shop in Cedar Crest NM a couple of years ago. It was in the back of the humidor and the bag was covered in dust. It was marked $8/oz. I showed him the P&C price and he gave it to me at that price. There was literally nothing else in the shop that I would ever consider buying.

Gonna guess that $40 didn't find its way into the register I paid with a card, and he run it through the till.

Nice score, and nicely handled, bigwoolie. I wonder how old it is. I don't know, it's a plastic tub that was shrink wrapped in brittle cellophane. I looked all over it for a date, couldn't find one. It's kind of dry, though not terrible, and does not have an overly strong tin note. I smoked a bowl, it burned pretty hot, and the smoke had a little bit of tongue bite, but the taste and room note was very mellow. I dunno

The Sta-Fresh tubs will maintain a reasonable level of hydration for 10 years. When empty, save it and use it for daily rotation storage.

After 5 or 6 bowls of this Carter Hall, I've decided it's a keeper. It's not steak, but it's not a microwaved corn-dog either. Just a good, solid plate of pinto beans and cornbread. I have to smoke it in a more relaxed manner, because it does burn hot and can bite the tongue a bit if I get aggressive.
I don't actually "rotate", I more like drift from one smoke to the next, depending on need, mood or whim. I reckon this one will stay in my "drift".

I have no rotation myself, just "drifting" through, enjoying whatever draws my attention. I agree with you about Carter Hall. It is a beans and cornbread tobacco, as you put it. I find Half and Half to be the same kind of blend. Have you ever had Sutliff's Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match? It is the pinnacle of that kind of blend, for me.

If you like it, cigarette stores tend to carry it. Around here tubs sell for $27.
