Sometime back Peterson Pipes were having issues with poor quality on some of their pipe lines. Issues with the finish that we’re allowing some pipes to blister and peel. There were issues with the drilling of the stems being off center. There may have been some other issues but but my memory fails me. I am wondering if these issues have been eliminated since the company that owns Smoking Pipes has purchased Peterson? I like Peterson Pipes and maybe would consider buying another but don’t want to risk getting one that may have the aforementioned issues. So does anyone have any information that these issues have been eliminated? Thanks for reading and your input.

Good afternoon AJ & Walt, I’ve been wondering the same thing myself “ how’s the quality and craftsmanship “ of those Pete’s now. The models on the market now still might be from old stock. I too am waiting for a member to post about the latest Pete releases. Not that I would purchase one, it’s for those who enjoy their Pete’s.

I only have two. One was purchased from Blue Room Briars, and the other (a new bulldog 150) from Smoking Pipes. Both are perfect. Holes drilled correctly--no problems with finish--both great smokers. I wonder if the quality issue is exaggerated. Just my 2 cents' worth. Then again, maybe I am just lucky.

William, the only issue I ever had was those Pete’s with the cheap lacquer finish that would bubble after just a few smokes. I never owned one, but I did re-finish three for fellow pipe smokers. Much to my surprise, two of the bowls had a beautiful grain that Pete decided to hide for some odd reason. All three I left with a natural finish, only White Diamond & Carnauba wax was used on my buffing wheels. Eventually the briar darkened naturally.

Probably too soon to gauge the Laudisi affect yet, but it will likely be positive, as they do give a damn about pipers and the products offered to them.

I would suspect they would try to get rid of their old line before their new ones come out in full force. Also, if the factory was handed over to a new owner, but the staff and equipment remained the same, if QA is no different then you may not see as great an improvement as you might hope... I may be wrong though.

Until I read all the bruhaha last year about this my only experience with Peterson pipes was with the three i own which are FANTASTIC pipes! Two my father bought in London in 1947, a system 303 and a blasted 150-S and the other one is a Rocky I bought in 1980. I hope what ever problems they have had will go away with new ownership. Course new owners aren't making the pipes so they may need to do some labour house cleaning to resolve this sort of problem!
