I went online today..I was looking at an item I thought I might want to buy (not pipe smoking related)..The site said free shipping if I spend 25 bucks..Then under the item it said that I might find the item cheaper but without free shipping. Now I'm thinking that if they're charging me more for the item how much of the shipping is really free.

Amazon’s third party sellers will do the same thing. With my Prime Membership it “ usually “ works out well with the free shipping offer. What your stating I’ve noticed on a number of sites in the past few months. Good luck👍

Many online retailers and sellers do this tactic. From Amazon to Target to Walmart to eBay and more, the item gets marked up a little bit and then they say it's free shipping. Its all about knowing the real price and shopping around. By doing that you can indeed save money and of course time ordering online and utilizing free shipping but then other times not so much. I'm always hunting and comparing deals trying to save a buck here there. Personally I'm always comparing Amazon, Walmart and Target. Recently I was able to make an order from Walmart online and not only pay less compared to Amazon or Target but even less than if I were to physically walk in the store. Other times though the item is best purchased in store. Recently I needed canning salt and I thought the deal online wasn't bad until I realized that by going into Walmart physically instead of ordering online I would pay half the price. Also, this meme about sums up online shopping and "free" shipping......

When we first started EBaying, my wife purchased a bunch of zoppini charms for a bracelet... only .99 cents apiece, she assumed that they would bundle the shipments.... eight charms at $5 per to ship, they all came in one envelope.
Yeah, that sucked.

Don't y'all know, "Nothings for Free!"
And if I remember correctly, a wise man once said, "There's a Sucker is born every Minute!" (And there is no concrete evidence that P.T. Barnum ever said it.)

I have a stem stock supplier that sells a 12" blank for $16.99 plus $8 shipping on their website. They have an eBay store where the same thing is $24.99 with free shipping. No joke.

With him selling on eBay he losses some funds, both eBay and PayPal. Makes no sense to me. I have a few of my custom knives posted on ebay, one in particular is buy it now for $425.00 or make offer. One guy offered me $325.00, I sent him my best counter offer of $390.00. His response “ f** k you “! It takes all kinds.

Just as there is no such thing as a free lunch, there is no free shipping; someone is paying for it, one way or another.
However, that doesn't stop me from convincing myself I need to add a few more tins/pounds/ounces of tobacco to get to the free shipping point! Note that when I say "...convincing myself I need to add..." what I mean is that is what I always do, without fail.

Sometimes it nets out even, sometimes Amazon is even a bit more. But you get al the other pluses of Amazon, 1-2 dy delivery, no hassle returns, etc.

Free Priority Mail shipping has led me to spend $100.00 to 'save' $14.00 more than I care to admit.

Hahah same here Mike. I can't count how many times a $40 order had $39 worth of stuff added just to get free shipping. I almost did it today and stopped myself.
Then minutes later some McConnell showed up in stock. I called immediately and had them add some to my order.
My $60 order still cost me $73 with shipping and tax.

That guy had no qualms about who he really is...certainly does not have qualifications of being a man...instead of a man card, he has a punk card...it is nice when an asshat outs himself though, no need to proceed, other than blocking him.

Now if I only want a few things I order only those items and pay the 5-6 in shipping. A whole lot cheaper.
