It doesn't appear that the authorities really care. A couple of politicians have admitted that the tobacco taxes are more of a tax grab than actual concern for the publics health.

Only a very small proportion of smokers order from O/S from what I can tell.
I've spoken to one guy on-line who orders snuff & chewing tobacco from O/S. Both have been made illegal to sell in Oz.
So it's odd that when he has an order intercepted, Customs sends him a tax invoice & when paid, they release it for delivery.
Very strange.

The laws re; importing tobacco without a licence will be changed in June. As we're not too sure if that means that they'll come down hard on those who import for personal use, I took no chances & ordered while I still can.

I'm so glad that I discovered on-line tobacconists. The money I've saved, around $250 a fortnight, is what's allowed me to stock up.

When it comes down to it, it is all about "follow the money"...it really doesn't have anything to do with concern about health.
Otherwise, in the big tobacco tax settlement, they would not ae allowed the cigarette companies to keep their ingredient lists private.

Politicians that profess to be concerned about public health, are more concerned about revenue streams....much like a prostitute.

Around 18 months ago, I discovered the wonderful world of on-line shopping. The range of blends is amazing.
I've discovered heaps of new blends that the antipodeans take for granted. English blends, Orientals, blends with perique just to name a few.
I'm now enjoying my pipes so much more now that I have dozens of blends from which to choose.

One can buy a pound of tobacco, including postage, for less than the cost of a 50g tin here.
I've now got over 30lbs in my cellar.
That amount would have cost over $20k at our prices.

as I do smoke cigs no it didn't shock me that much
from the local Erinmore mixture & Dr Pat Irish mix that's all they had.
from ebay - Savinelli Aromona,Savinelli English mix,Presbyterian mix melange.
As I am back to pipes for only 12 months after 35 years off its a big learning curve about were to get more blends.

Do you like the Savinelli English? It took me a little while to become accustomed to latakia but now mild English, Americans & lightly topped (flavoured) crossovers are my go to blends.

8-9 years ago I was a 40-a-day cig smoker when I switched to pipes. Cigarettes have a staggering 300+ added chems. Pipe tobacco is just tobacco. Aromatics usually use natural toppings.
Pipe tobacco typically has much less nicotine, so there is a 3-day adjustment period.

Now I smoke heaps less, no longer have a smokers cough (I'm an inhaler) feel much healthier & I can now go hours without a smoke & I don't even notice when busy. I no longer crave for a smoke.

Ditching cigs for a pipe was a blessing.
Now that I've got heaps of tobacco I'm only ordering from O/S once a fortnight so I'm saving heaps of money.

Yes it is a big learning curve but there's heaps of advice here at the Briar Patch. Don't be scared to ask.
Although I smoked a pipe for 7 years before finding on-line support, I knew bugger all. Since reading heaps & asking lots of dumb questions, I've now got my head around it & am really enjoying my pipes & range of delicious tobaccos.
