Thanks for sharing Sam, it’s a technique I’ve read about on another article. This one was more detailed and a few other thoughts from others. Good reading 👌👍👍

Huh, something I’ve naturally started doing and didn’t know it had a specific name. This has worked well for me with several tobaccos so far. I enjoy the anticipation and the result.
Thanks for posting!

I didn't realize there was a name or technique for something I do quite often. Sometimes I finish off an unfinished smoke from the night before or a lot of times it will go out and I'll continue to puff on the pipe unlit and fire it up again later. I'll have to pay attention and see if I notice any difference in flavor.

I wish this worked for me - I find every blend I smoke much worse if I come back to it. Gave up on these bitter DGTs years ago. Just dump it and start again...

If you really want to put some hair on your chest, try DGT with a cigar!

I will give it a try, however I know from much experience that it's a horrible idea with a cigar. Unless, of course, you enjoy licking your Cigar ashtray clean....... pretty similar taste!

If you really want to put some hair on your chest, try DGT with a cigar! Cutting the ash off and blowing through it before relighting improves it a bit.

This ^^^^^^^ if I’m not going to finish a good cigar for a few hours I cut off the portion that’s lit. No harshness when re-lit and the best flavors begin at the half way point. I’ve been using this method for many years. So far, no complaints.

I've never done it on purpose, but maybe I will. Thanks for sharing Wolfman.

I guess it would stand to reason that the tobacco left in the DGT pipe would be toasted and likely to burn well?

I do this more often than not, certain types of tobacco really shine.Sometimes I get a char light and then don't get back to it right away and I find these to be the best.If halfway through a bowl and I don't get to finish, when I do comeback to it I lightly scrape and dump the ash relight and good to go with no ash taste.

I’ve been making a conscientious effort to do this because I’ve noticed i puff like a freight train of late. I have a lot on my mind and it’s likely more of a nervous habit (the vigorous puffing). Sometimes it will affect the taste. For example when smoking BlackHouse, SPC Plum Pudding or Balkan Supreme, the taste becomes bitter with fast puffing. Last night I DGT’d Plum Pudding SR and it worked quite well. I was able to pace myself and not affect the taste. I had a pleasant hour plus smoke.

For me it's not a technique; it's how I smoke at times. I'll put down a bowl as I exit the car, or as I come in from a walk, or talking on the phone. I may have several partially smoked bowls about the house and in the car. Some get re-lit in a few minutes, or hours or days. I do not get bitter nor anything but good as first light. Sometimes better.
Perhaps it's because I don't have a damp mess in the heel, (simply a matter of pre-drying tobacco to a low range); or maybe as I don't smoke aros or heavily cased or topped tobaccos.

I can't do the DGT, if I call it quits before I'm finished I dump whatever is left in the chamber.
