You may have seen the news of the school shooting here in the Denver suburbs. My best friend's three nephews got out safely, thank God. I know what he and his sister were going through. Back in 2013, both of my daughters went through a shooting at their high school that caused the death of a classmate. My youngest girl is now 21. The recent shooting has brought this all back to the forefront and she is having a sad, and rough day today. My older girl has what can only be described as PTSD from the event in 2013 and occasionally has bad days when something reminds her of that horrible day. A friend at work survived Columbine and gets to be reminded of that day constantly by the media and various public figures. Last month at work they did an active shooter drill with blank firing and he had to excuse himself. He did not come to work on 4/20. It hurts my soul every time one of these deranged/selfish/evil individuals commits such an atrocity. I know the terror of not knowing if my kids were hurt or safe, alive or dead (Two hours can seem like an eternity. I know what kind of harm it does to those who survive such senseless violence and I can only begin to understand the pain and loss that comes with losing a loved one to such evil. Asking for prayers for my girls, my friends and all who have been affected by these terrible events.

Thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I cant even begin to imagine what it's like as a student, a parent, a teacher, a leo, or anyone else that has gone through this.
Its sickening to say the least. I stopped myself 3 times from posting about this yesturday.
Prayers Don, many of them.

As a teacher, I would be lying if I didn’t fear this happening at my school.

The world has always been plagued by evil to one degree or another. Just a different style of it now. So unnecessary.

I resisted before, but came home this afternoon to a weeping daughter. That hurts.

The past 20 years or so I’ve seen our society we ALL live in get much worse!! Bad enough our government has to deal with terrorism around the world, now our government, State and City as well has to deal with this home grown hatred and disrespect for the lives of law bidding American citizens. I’m all for our 2nd amendment rights, what we need is a much more stringent background check before the approval of a CCW license/permit. Due to the changing world around us it’s time for new legislation and pass “ a full background “ check in all 50 States before granting a “ home protection permit only “ as well. JMHO
Tonight’s candle and Prayers will be for the family and friends of the one life that was senselessly lost and a fast recovery for those eight victims injured during yet another school shooting.

Talked to my daughter some more. She seems to be feeling much better. One of my buddy's nephews helped subdue one of the shooters. He had friends who were shot and was going to visit them today. A brave young man. I need to meet him some day.

The horror of something like that must be unimaginable... Certainly for someone who lives in a place where that doesn't happen.
But while I can't imagine what you're going through, I can try...and so my heart goes out to you and you're daughters and those involved.
This should never ever happen.

Glad to hear your daughter is doing better Don. I now the feeling of terror when a school is locked down and your child is in it. My daughter works in the cafeteria at a local high school and it got locked down because a nut job was running around the area with a gun after robbing a bank. Of course I went there with the excuse I had something to repair but the school police know me and assured me everything was fine and she was safe. It scared the hell out me.

When our daughters went through the 2013 shooting at their HS, I think I aged a few years in a few hours. Not knowing is a terrible thing.

I’m sorry that your daughter had to go through such an ordeal, Don and that so many in your orbit have been affected by the senselessness. Cowards choose soft targets, and generally piss their pants when confronted. Some schools deal with it better than others with a proactive approach.

We forget how emotionally fragile our children are. Something like this has a far more lasting effect on them than we could ever imagine. Very sad.

The shooting Tuesday brought back the memories/trauma for them too. Prayers for all.
