G'day everyone.
Over the last 18 months or so, I've been discovering & learning about new leaf & blends.
Although I've smoked blends with orientals, I've yet to try an oriental forward blend so I really don't have much idea about what the various orientals taste like on their own or what to expect from oriental blends. So a newbie question.
Recently I bought 8oz of Peter Stokkebye English Oriental Supreme. It's really different to anything I've smoked before. I've read the reviews & it's not described as a lat-bomb although it's smells & tastes really smoky & latakia like. Is this typical of how orientals & latakia interact? Do other oriental forward with latakia blends have this type of taste?
Although I enjoy mild English, American & crossover blends, I'm really not into lat-bombs. This PS EOS however, is a nice smoke. Quite smooth & very smoky.
Also, is there a 100% oriental/Turkish blend that sells in bulk for blending purposes?

Great for blending and under $30.00 a pound Cornell & Diehl Izmir Turkish might be what your looking for. Arrives fairly dry but perfect for blending 👌👍👍

+1 on the C&D Turkish ... D&R Ramback Regular would be another to consider.

Pipesandcigars.com has blending Smyrna. Not sure of quality. I've had it on my list for a little while to use in a plug with red Virginia, dark fired, Turkish, and unflavored black cav.

I forget which ones, but Seattle Pipe Club offers several Oriental forward English blends. One has a light amount of latakia (barely noticeable) and another has no Latakia. They certainly have a unique flavor. It's been a while since I tried them, and didn't get more as I fell in love with Mississippi River, Plum Pudding and Hood Canal. However, the Orientals in those are spicy, but in a very different way than Perique. Almost reminiscent of a Lakeland.

Smokers Haven Exotique is pretty Oriental forward. Leafonly has several varieties of orientals available in whole leaf form that would need to be chopped up.

Presbyterian, Light on the Lat , but has 2/3 Orientals in it. Nice and smooth.

Thanks for your recommendations everyone. C & D Izmir sounds exactly what I'm after. Under $30usd to boot! Great value.
So no-one can tell me if PS English Oriental Supreme is typical of an oriental forward blend? Guess I'll have a much better idea after getting a pound of Izmir.
I've found that having a good range of straight tobacco is a must have. Although I'd love to experiment with making my own blends, my limited supply is best used to tweak existing blends. I've now got Windsail Virginia, Latakia, Perique, Matured Red Virginia & I use Carter Hall when a touch of Burley is needed.
Adding a touch of this, a dash of that, can really enliven a blend & suit it better to ones personal tastes.

There haven't been any major Oriental forward blends since the loss of McClelland and their Grand Orientals line. Cairo comes close but most are either overshadowed by Virginias or Latakia. Then again, Latakia itself is classed as an Oriental

GL Pease Caravan is another one to try. I get more of that musty, incensy, almost floral sourness from it than I do any other oriental forward blend I've tried (and reading what I just wrote, that sounds kind of terrible but I love it.) The latakia is there but light enough to taste the Virginias and Orientals (I've never heard him to identify which varietals).
Many of the others mentioned so far are still on my list to try.

Low Country Natural Virginia & Oriental (Smokingpipes.com blend by C&D) is a nice bulk blend, very inexpensive. Another is Peter Stokkebye Turkish Export #84 (Turkish/Virginia) shag cut in bulk. These have the flavors of woodsy, sour & aromatic that characterize Orientals.

If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend McConnell's Original Oriental. Not a bulk, but excellent. Grab a tin if you can. Tobacco Reviews has some good reviews of it. One of my favorite blends.

Daughter's & Ryan has a bunch of different straight oriental tobacco. It's not in their catalog but call them about their Blender's Bench tobacco series. They have many varieties available. They'll setup an account over the phone and can hook you up with whatever you're looking for.
