Hi again; I would like to try an English blend but I don't know what to get. A little about myself, I am 72, handicapped and don't get around much any more. My wife passed last year ,and could not smoke a pipe in the house, now I can. I know there are a lot of brands out there but I don't know what to get. I would like something that is mild but not so mild as breathing air nor so strong to put hair on my bald head. I have tried Fox & Hound , and did not care for it. Tasted like burning Leaves. Ive tried others but don't remember there names. What I smoke now is Molto Duce , Night Cap, Spiced Rum, and Cream Brulee. As you can see I like the sweeter tobaccos.Any suggestions would be helpful ,as there are no pipe tobacco stories near me. Thank-you for your advice. Herman

Try Peterson's Old Dublin. Should be available again. Presbyterian's a lighter one.

If you're good with Nightcap then it should be pretty easy to find others that you'll like. It's pretty strong in flavor and in nicotine as well, thanks to the Perique.
Others to consider - Squadron Leader, Plum Pudding and Mississippi River

Balkan Sasieni doesn't get much attention, but I think it's a great blend. Very Oriental forward. Woodsy and slightly floral. Always available, as well.

Think herman means the same name, Tobacco Galleria Night Cap. - In bulk, Sutliff Match Holiday Mixture, might very well work for you.

Forgot to add Arango Balkan Supreme β¦ must try! Peter Stokkebye Balkan Supreme is the same blend if you can't find Arango. The names are different depending on the distributor.

Also, you might enjoy a crossover English blend like Lane HGL, Sutliff Aromatic English, or Just for Him's Bombadil. They're English blends with some black Cavendish and some aromatic topping. They're all very smooth, and non threatening.

If you like the sweeter blends and want an english I like C&D Sweet English. Just don't pay attention to the tin note, it smells like horse manure but tastes great.

Kramer' Father Dempsey is very nice. Balanced English blend. Smoking Pipes always has it.

A nice English with a bit of sweetness is H&H BlackHouse. It's on sale at P&C for $8.99 a tin.

English blends take some time to appreciate, myself I can't smoke anything with Orientals in it cause they trigger my cough mechanism. But, I do love a good Lat blend and I would suggest Dunhill Mixture BB1938, it is very mild and smooth. Although it is discontinued there is still quite a bit of it for sale out there. I just purchased 3 tins myself and enjoy immensely.
I think its a good pick to break you into English blends.

GLP Piccadilly nice and complex not a Latakia overload more of a morning pipe with coffee blend. In the 8oz tin it is priced very well and will not break the bank.

Thank you all for your responses, I will write them all down and when I get them, sort them out too which I like and don't. the ones I don't like will go into my don't like go into my don't like canister with all the other tobaccos I did not care for. It makes for a interesting blend . any way again thank you all. Herman

Take a look at Boswells English blends. They all tend to be very sweet and actually quite aromatic. Titus is a really one. It is very pleasantly aromatic despite the Latakia. Itβs not very heavy, nor it is light. It tastes very sweet like an aromatic, but has only enough Latakia in it to makes it pretense known. They sell tins and bulk on their website.

Sorry to hear of your wifes passing. It can't be easy to adjust to life alone when ones life companion passes over.
Sutliff Sunrise (Dunhill Early Morning Pipe Match) is a rather pleasant mild English. It has a slight topping that I can't identify (Cognac maybe?) that gives a touch of sweetness. C & D London Squire is also a very nice mild English. It's sold in bulk(Has some chunky bits that need chopping but not a big deal) Ashton Consummate Gentleman is another tasty mild English.
I'd also recommend Epiphany & Chestnut that are lightly topped English/American blends. Holiday Match is a really good English/American for burley lovers.
Mixing an un-topped mild English like London Squire with an aromatic can produce something that suits your tastes. When in the mood I mix a little aromatic such as Mark Twain with London Squire for a rather enjoyable crossover.

You've had all good replies...my only suggestions are crumble kake Eng. #1, Arango Balkan Supreme, Plum Pudding Special Reserve and Bengal Slices...those 4 should do you very nicely.
