Sorry Patchers. I’m sure this has been addressed before, but I can’t find it. I’m fortunate to have 3 8oz bags of Esoterica. 1 each, Penzance, Margate and Stonehaven. Each bag seems to be sound and kept in a dark closet in a coleman type cooler. Walking through the store today, I saw a very large mason jar with a screw top, with a jarring type lid. I think all 3 bags would fit inside. So questions are. Would this be wise putting them all together? Is this a wasted step in storage?
I just want to be careful with my children’s inheritance! LOL

I would not put all 3 in one container...I don't think it is a good idea to mix different types of tobacco, regardless of bag strength,(it might eventually leak)...I would use one container with one tobacco type...sorry this isn't worded so well, but you get my meaning hopefully.

Totally agree. The few times I have combined containers I have always had issues. Separate containers are better.

I haven't had any problems with storage in the original bags themselves but I do know of those that seal them in those vacuum sealed bag gadgets for long term storage .

It’s true that those 8 .oz Esoterica tobacco’s are sealed in bags that are “ suppose “ to remain airtight for 20 plus years. I would still double seal them if you have the machine and vacuum bags. If not store in original factory sealed bags inside those extra large Mason/Ball jars.
PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT WELL, enjoy in your future........good luck👍👍👍
PS I must add, if your planning on smoking them rather than selling, I’d remove the tobacco from the factory bags and store in proper jars. You have a much better chance of sugar crystals forming on the tobacco with age.

12 canning jars with lids are under 10 bucks at wally world. Buy 12, put each tobacco in a jar or two, label and date them, then you are done.

Last year, a member on the PM Forum posted that he had found tiny pinholes in some of his bags where they are crimped. I checked out mine and of the 60 or so bags, three were not airtight. I ordered .7mill food grade metalized Mylar bags and heat sealed all of my Esoterica bags into them, one bag of Esoterica to one Mylar bag. Problem solved.

Germain's stated in an email a while back that their tobaccos were meant for immediate consumption and the notion of cellaring, to put kindly, amused them. Those bags were never intended for long term storage though some have had great success with them. I just open them up and jar them.

Thanks to everyone for your input. Time to do some canning in the kitchen. Just worried that if I to open them all at once, I may be found covered in flakes on the kitchen floor laughing hysterically and yelling “mine, it’s all mine” and growling at anyone who comes near.

It sounds like you have a stressful dilemma on your hands! To help you eliminate the stress, I suggest that you send the unopened bags to me and I will carefully open and jar them. At any time, if you wish to have a no-stress smoke I will send enough for a couple bowls. But don't wait too long because as we all know, that tobacco dissipates at a rate of about 1-2 bowls per week

That's a brilliant image. If those bags aren't airtight then you have made the right call.

If you intend to not smoke one or more of them, positively, absolutely do not open them (or it).
I don't store my bags of Margate in anything but the original bags, but pick them up every six months or so. The softness of the bag tells me the tobacco is still plenty moist. YMMV.
