The only pipe I have two of are WO Larsen pipes with wind caps... bought one, and saw his brother looking lonely. Chasingembers rules the roost on keeping families together. Wow, those windcaps were cut from the same blocks as the pipes! Beautiful pieces! Good eye, man. I didn't notice at first. haha

And more. That is a cool shape. Almost reminds me of an axe. Like one of those Frankish throwing axes. I really dig that 2nd one down.

I love the Savinelli 904s, 9004s, and GBD's 9613s. Here's most but not all of them. Thanks Duane, you finally sold me ! Been wanting to get 1 [904s] of those for almost a year ... I have a few twins [mostly cob] . đ I'm an enabler!

Narrower stem than the 904 but overall identical. There's an even more rare variant called the 914 that has a taller bowl.

I'm a rookie so I honestly have to say that I can't tell which of my pipes smoke the best yet. But I often find myself loving the shape, fit, and size of certain pipes and wishing I had more like it.
When I Was preparing the pipes for my auction, I had a few sets of twins and I remember thinking that it would be nice to have two of the same pipe if you really liked that pipe because you could let a pipe rest a little longer between uses.
But as I said, I am a rookie pipe smoker who just loves to Tinker with pipes. LOL

I have five Savinelli 320 KS pipes in different finishes. These pipes smoke so well for me that I had to stock up. I also have two Savinelli Bing's Favorites, one smooth and one rusticated. They all are exceptional smokers. Correction, I have six Savinelli 320 KS pipes. I have my eye on a few more too. I love the Savinelli 904s, 9004s, and GBD's 9613s. Here's most but not all of them. Great collection, Duane. I really like that shape; kind of a cross between a Dublin and a pickaxe to me. Shape or brand/shape collecting is a lot of fun. I love seeing groups of like pipes. Most have some variation but it's your collection to build. I agree, Dave. I enjoy seeing other's collections as much as adding to mine.

I was wrong about Brian Ruthenberg, it is Steve Weiner who is deceased. His pipes were wonderful smokers, jumped at the chance to get a second for under 200$.

Some of us are not exactly addressing the OP's question.
Some of us have several of the same shape, finish, and maker, but from various lines. Some of us have various shapes from one line, finish, and maker. Some of us have multiple pipes from the same line, maker, amd shape, but with different finishes. And obviously many of us have different lines, finishes, and shapes but from the same maker.
None of those match the OP's situation.
The OP is asking about buying the same maker, same shape, same finish, AND same line.
To that I say yes. But I've only done that with one pipe...I own three of the same maker/line/shape/finish.
I don't regret it. And I certainly see nothing wrong with it. I just haven't felt the need except for that one circumstance where I wound up with triplets.
If it strikes your fancy, go for it.

With a matched pair, break in can get confusing, trying to remember which pipe was smoked last. * this may qualify as a 1st World problem.

I smoke one for a week, replace it on the rack, and grab the next. Even on similar ones, grain or blast orientation is different enough to tell them apart.

Several identical Savinelli 673's here. If it smokes good and has a good feel - stick with it.

Love the look of those W O Larsen's!! Thanks! I think that WO Larsen's often fly under the radar in the estates market...which I find kind of weird. pipedia.org/wiki/W.%C3%98._LarsenSome pretty great names passed through the employee entrance.

If I find a pipe shape I like, itâs fun to grab alternate finishes. E.g. sandblast and smooth.

...if you think about it, no two pipes are really "the same" anyway...

Been downsizing since becoming disabled, never had 2 of the same pipe, but if I did, I would have sold one by now. I can't see collecting,or hoarding, just to convince myself that if I own more material items that it's going to make me live longer so that one day I will get around to using them. Just sold 4 pipes at the pipe meet this Sunday to raise money to afford a new set of ankle/foot braces to keep me walking, so owning duplicate pipes is a luxury I won't be experiencing.

Sorry to hear that Marty.
Not the selling of pipes, but the physical issues, I hope and pray that you can turn the corner on all of that.

Thanks for all the feedback! My issue with "the same pipe" is/was a bit unique. I enjoy the Savinelli 673 KS as well, but it is pretty much the little brother of the Peterson Squire sans the PLIP (the 999 and 80s are about the same size as the 673 KS as well). But with the Savinelli, it is much easier to find many different rusticated/sandblasted 673 ks. Whereas, my issue has been that there is only one rusticated Squire, and several smooth versions of the squire (dark, ebony, smooth etc.). I love the looks of the wood grain of of smooth pipes; but when smoking a pipe I love the tactile/cooler feel of a rusticated or nicely sandblasted pipe; the exception are smooth pipes with very thick walls. So my choices had been whether to purchase the exact same pipe, or one of the smooth versions. Luckily I ran across the Peterson Kinsale XL15 Rusticated PLIP: the Squire and the XL15 are the same shape/size. So now I can have a couple rusticated pipes and then maybe add a smooth one (or 2) later.

To answer the original question - " same maker, same series, same finish, same shape"...a Grabow Hillcrest smooth shape 119 was my first pipe...and I've got 3 of the same...still my favorite pipe.

You would have to have some sort of disorder, a pipe acquisition disorder, to own more than one of the same pipe.
