I keep this on my bookshelf as a tribute to the man who most influenced me to pick up the pipe 47 years ago...my Grandfather. He lived a long life from 1887 till 1978, saw five wars, raised six children, and smoked more Cutty Pipe tobacco than one would think possible. He was a coal miner, by trade and in later years a school janitor. He hunted and fished and loved baseball....he was a damn good catcher in his day (who once got to catch some Cy Young pitches back in the days when the Cincinnati Reds played exhibition games against local amateur clubs). He ate whatever he liked but was as skinny as a rail, was never without his pipe, and had a bit of whiskey in his coffee once a day. I would love to light a bowl with him again.

...sounds like a true man of the pipe...I'll smoke a bowl in his honor as well!

He sounds like a fine man. You've built a worthy tribute to him. The world could use more like him.

My great-great-great-grandmother smoked a pipe, sadly I know nothing about her as she predated me by several generations, all I have is her portrait, which I use as my avatar, and I am named after her. How precious that you have your memories. I will also raise a pipe in his honor.
