My belief, in less then 2 years it will be illegal to purchase pipe tobacco’s or cigars online, taxed or not. Can you purchase cigarettes online now....nope. JMHO

Saw that...it's coming! That is the purpose of having a cellar NOW...if you wait you are gonna be paying more if you can even get what you are looking for.

Many states have the same policy as Michigan. Here in Arizona, it is cigarettes online (not sure about smokeless tobacco). About a year ago, SP started collecting Arizona sales tax, P&C does not. I think in the case of Arizona, for cigar and pipe tobacco it is the general sales tax that is collected not a tobacco tax. The policies vary from state to state. Read the last sentence... at least for Arizona, for now...this is the first link that always comes up on my Az based IP on searches. www.azag.gov/consumer/tobacco/delivery-sales-ban

Thankfully, my cellar is more or less at a point to satisfy my minimum needs. For those of you who do not have that luxury, DO NOT WAIT. As Walt said, while your tobacco of choice may well be available in the future, you may have no ability to get it, if you live out of state.

Thankfully my cellar looks pretty good and should support MANY years of future smokes.

If PA were to collect 500% taxes on my cellar, I'd personally be responsible for building a bridge or two.

Yikes!
From MI Treasury Website:
"It's A Crime! It's a crime to purchase cigarette's and other tobacco products by mail, over the internet, or in any other way unless the seller is properly licensed by the State of Michigan and each cigarette pack is affixed with a Michigan tobacco stamp. Violations are punishable by up to five years imprisonment, along with seizures of assets from anyone possessing illegally purchased cigarettes."
CW (and they got the apostrophe wrong...)

However, I don't see any MI law that clearly states whether or not it is legal to purchase PIPES, not tobacco, online. Does anyone know of an authoritative article or website that discusses this? Since the FDA considers pipes as "tobacco products", however ridiculous that is, and since purchasing tobacco products online in MI is currently banned, does that mean MI pipers can't buy new and/or estate pipes online???

Depressing thread. Glad I've got a bit of a cellar at this point. Right now in California the only thing we're required to do is declare untaxed purchases made online on our State returns. I'm sure that will change soon enough.

In its ongoing effort to drive LiL Brown smoke shop out of business, Washington State banned the sale of pipes by mail/commercial delivery.

I wouldn't let such a possible cloud deter me from buying pipes online. nor should you. The issue is that for MI residents, buying "tobacco products" online, or out of state an bringing them home, can result in: "Fines of 500% of unpaid tax + tax owed Seizure of the product Seizure of vehicle used to transport tobacco product Imprisonment for 5 years and/or $5000 fine." Seems like MI residents would wanna be sure.....

Well. I'd maintain a pipe isn't a product of tobacco, and more importantly I'd make sure that tax has been paid. It appears aimed at smugglers, wholesalers. But who knows if some douchebag official wants to round up a small fish to make some news.
Maybe you should move!
And I wonder if the ACLU would take the case..... 10:1, no.

I buy my piping stuff from a local B&M who can order and get whatever customers want. I walked in the other day and strolled out with 8oz bags of Margate, And So to Bed, and Ramsgate.
