No, the Police vehicle hit the train. Warning lights were still red. Sad, but everybody in Midland is in a friggin hurry these days.

Cops especially should know better at that particular crossing it’s two way traffic. Simple, look both ways always! If warning lights are still red there is usually a good reason. Hopefully there were no fatalities!!!

Hopefully there were no fatalities!!! What a mess!! You are right, Ted...he should have been a whole lot more careful than he was...especially with two tracks to cross.

They must have been in a hot pursuit? And how in the hell can an intersection that dangerous not have better warnings? Like a gate or barrier?

Midland, eh?
I was sure that was from Sparta Mississippi and Chief Gillespie was trying to chase down Virgil Tibbs, again. Another case?

The farm country of southern Colorado has many unprotected rail crossings. These are infrequently used "spur" lines for access to silos, elevators and warehouses. No lights, no arms, no warning of any kind other than signs advising motorists to look both ways before crossing. Every now and again, a get together between train and rubber tire vehicle.

On one hand, I can understand the adrenaline of a police officer responding to a call, and forgetting about the double tracks. But on the other hand, having lived in areas where that is the case, it becomes second nature that when a train is slowing to a stop, another that has priority is about to come barreling through... almost a given.
There should be crossing arms at such intersections though.

First thing they taught us in kindergarten was "Stop, Look, and Listen". yep. We called that the green cross code. And the green cross code man was the man who played darth vader in star wars.

He was en route to a "child in distress" call...which was handled by another car...still he should have known better, even on a code 3.

The flashing red lights should be enough. I've seen enough folks dodge around gates to know that alone won't fix stupid.

That’s right, we got 2 Texas men who tried a couple days ago to jump the pontoon bridge at Bayou Black. Bridge was open, passenger got out, moved the arm up, got in car, backed up and peeled out, landed in middle of bayou, driver drowned in car , passenger got out but still drowned. You Can’t Fix Stupid!

We had two Cajuns drown here in tejas last week after their pickup became submerged in water. Cause of death was ruled the tailgate was stuck.
