Last night I packed a bowl of 4th Generation Family Reserve in this pipe and it was the best experience I've ever had with a pipe! There was absolutely no heat whatsoever and I kept wondering how it was staying lit? It was like drawing through the pipe with nothing in it but the flavor was there and smoke came out of my mouth? Even the best experiences I had prior to last night were terrible by comparison

Sounds like all the planets were perfectly aligned... pipe with wide open draw, perfectly packed tobacco, just right tobacco moisture and ambient air, good lighting technique, etc., IDK really, but it's always a pleasant surprise when it happens.

It doesn't happen very often. Kinda makes it special when it does.

Sometimes it just happens. I find that I can't make it happen. 1 time in 50 it is just so right. The other 49 vary from "why did I light this" to "this is pretty good". Lately I have been getting the most perfect smokes from Bengal Slices and Wilke #515.

4th Generation Family Reserve is one of the better aromatics and smokes well right out of the tin. Combined with a great pipe, it makes for an awesome smoke!

That sounds awesome! I had a similar experience several years ago while on vacation at the Outer Banks in North Carolina. It was early evening and I was siting on a 24' deck overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. All the stars were aligned for that one smoke.

Itβs similar to when all the stars line up properly for that one BIG β O β your lucky to have had in the past. Hey, some of you younger guys need to go camping with your better half more often and β catch that lucky star βπππππ

Jeff, chances are you will experience this more and more, as you appear to be diligent in your pursuit of pipes and tobacco. I doubt if anyone gets this 100% of the time... but the ratio will increase as you travel along the path.

Stone, that makes that pipe definitely a keeper. Glad that is such a beautiful smoker for you.

Zone Smoke (and we'd all like them to happen more often). +++

I hope you have many more like that, buddy.
I have had a couple, but perhaps they are also the 'terrible' ones that will be overshadowed by my holy grail experience.

4th Generation Family Reserve. I ordered some, and when I got it, it was dry as the Sahara. Maybe worse. I took a small sprayer, and using distilled water, I spent some time to re-hydrate it. Took a couple days to get it just right. Then it smoked rather good.
