So, I'm in a mood today. Hubby comes in a little bit ago, he's been going through old, forgotten files on his computer and asks if I want some Viking Balls. (I should tell you our last name is Knorr, and hubby has blue eyes and has had blonde hair most of his life) I look at him and say, "I thought I already had some Viking Balls." He chuckles and says, "What I meant was would you want to make some Viking Balls." I look at him again and raise my eyebrow and say, "I thought we already made some." (We have a son.) He sighs with exasperation and explains, 'These are evidently a pastry." I then tell him that if the recipe doesn't call for mead, then it is NOT a Viking pastry. He went back to his computer, lol.

The Knorr name is very common in Germany, but that is due to Vikings settling there. A "knorr" is actually a Viking cargo ship, so we deduce that those with the last name of Knorr where ship builders. When we learned that hubby said, "No wonder I've always had the desire to build a boat!" He has been a woodworker most of his life and even worked in a cabinet shop. Here is my Viking in high school....
he has always jokingly said I married him for his money (he's never had any) but between you and me this is the real reason, lol....

Here are my Vikings. Hubby was a judge at a JROTC Drill Competition at our son's former high school. Son's former first sergeant kept trying to put him to work, lol. Oh and DS caught a goof in one formation that his father nor the other judges caught, but they didn't consult him so that unit won that division.

so, the question about the recipe got me curious and i did an online search for "viking balls recipe." the results weren't as bad as they could have been, but all the recipes were for meatballs.... . i will have to have hubby print off the pastry recipe tomorrow.
