My truck was due for a PM today, so I took line power a 2017 Freightliner Cascadia.... the check engine lights came on and the coolant was low. Filled it up, and took my breaks running the A/C under the eucalyptus trees behind a Kroger store... 30 minutes in, lights came on steady stream as the freightliner marked its territory....
Drove around front, bought 3 gallons of water, drove back across town, hooked my gear and rear box in another Kroger lot where I break my set up during the day... going on 3 hours waiting.... don’t feel sorry for me though, it is all overtime, and I have an unlimited supply of water to keep the freightshaker running.
Back in the day, I would have nursed it into the barn but the route I have to take is typically heavy congestion... good luck getting to the side of the road with a set and dealing with motorists as I refill the tank... ain’t happening.
The sad thing is that I am only a mile from big sticks cigar lounge, if there was more room in their lot for a hook, I would be in there.

I actually pondered the notion... Union rules... off clock on my time... Ok.
Burned all my off clock time and was on OT... It would be bad news if the tow truck driver wondered where I was at and called dispatch...plus, I had security sensitive freight... triple whammy of badness.

Love driving the modern trucks except for one thing, the bloody things will shut down on you when the computer system detects a fault. When I pick up a day or two of work, it's usually in an old 350 10-speed Mack. I'm the only one who can drive the thing - the boss drove it for a couple of years before buying himself a new Mack because he couldn't get the hang of the gearbox, lol. Glad you've found some shade. You could even get a nap in while being paid overtime. Lemonade from lemons & all that.

Yeah... I had an experience in Salt Lake City during the winter in a Freightliner some years back. The water levels dropped a smidgen, and the computer put me in reduced power... premature action applied because someone thinks a driver is incapable of monitoring the gauges.
