Today, I sold the ranch in Rio Vista, CA.
I just couldn't deal with it anymore. Too much.
The cows will be fine... the buyer is a good friend.
It included the house on the golf course... I can't golf anymore.
Time marches on.

Martin. Congratulations. I get the feeling this was not something you necessarily wanted to do but needed to do. I’m sure it is a great weight lifted off your shoulders though. Now time to move on and enjoy what you can. And bask in the memories you have

I'm sorry you had to sell it, but I'm happy it won't be weighing on your mind. Did you have a "Ranch Pipe'?

Congratulations on the sale of the ranch. I always wanted to work on a ranch or do farming. Instead I’m in Human Resources Management All the best to you in a new chapter of your life.

Not sure if gets any easier when older. It does sound like you were ready.

It's difficult, but sometimes you just have to move on and/or simplify your life. Congratulations on the sale, DT. Are you still thinking about relocating to Oregon?

In my youth I didn’t put much stock into tho notion of our lives having seasons. I now recognize there are seasons and ways to move through them with some grace. Lightening the load in our later seasons makes grace some easier. Congrats on lightening the load and best wishes on your move Martin.

It can be painful when we realize we are nothing more than stewards, holding onto those things which last for future generations and future owners.
Sometimes we're the last, using up and wearing things out, but for most things which matter, we pass them on in some way, shape, or form.
I hope you enjoyed the ranch and house while they were under your care, you deserve it. May you have created many great memories for yourself and others.

If at this station in life it makes sense, Martin you made the right choice.
Not in any way compared to Martin's decision, different situation. My mother came from a family of 21 kids...grandpa had four kids from his first wife, she died he sent for her sister to help out and they fell in love and had 17 kids...most of them had large families...so that tree took off on steroids. Grandpa had property on the continental divide, ( Sangre De Cristo mountains, Twin Sisters mountains in the background) with so many memories poured into that ground with blood and sweat and experiences through the toughest of times...they decided that the youngest would get the property, mentally he was a genius...was in college at 14, morally he was a reprobate. He decided to sell the property to anyone but family members even though many would give him fair market value out of spite...a million dollar view of the Twin Sisters. We (family members) wanted to purchase the land to put it in a family trust as a touchstone for future generations to visit, but it could not happen...he sold the land for 40k (way below market value) in 1995. An aunt has property nearby, but is is like a scab re-opening when we drive by the property...I think this property did love us back. It was just off to the right of this picture.

Congrats on the sale Martin. It might not have been an easy decision but hope you're at peace with it. I wish my dad had sold his house but he stubbornly held onto it and my sister did some underhanded stuff so the house sits abandoned with high grass and is rotting away. I have an attorney working on what I have to do to take over the property and it looks like I might have to just pay the back taxes and clean it up. I'll have to demolish the house because of the flooded basement and mold but I plan on building a garage there to store all my soda machines and use it as a shop for my business and leave enough room to build another house if my kids want it.

I'm glad you sold it to a friend! Maybe now you can still get some enjoyment out of it without the burden of responsibility. Good luck!

Are you still thinking about relocating to Oregon? ...we're looking at Vancouver, WA... Honestly, I haven't been to Vancouver for a few decades, but it was a beautiful place back then so I'm sure it will be now. And you will really just be a short drive across the Columbia to get to Portland. Good luck with the move when you make it.

Martin, you might want to give northern New Mexico, the greener part, a look.
