Walked into an "antique gallery" in Daphne, AL yesterday and was surprised to find close to 30 pipes. Passed on a "franken-peterson" (had a Peterson stem, a sterling silver spigot and absolutely no markings on the briar itself.), an old Nording with a 14K gold band that had deep gashes carved into the badly charred rim, and the usually number of Dr. Grabows. I walked out with a pipe with what I thought was the Stanwell logo on the stem. Turns out it's not a Stanwell because the crown logo is different. [img src=" i.imgur.com/wz4IXwv.jpg" style="max-width:100%;" alt="" src=""] From what I understand, Savory was a small pipe company bought by Dunhill sometime before World War II. Other than that, I don't know anything. It is in the cleaning process now. Note: They also had two Parker's in the case but they were in worse condition in my opinion.

Congrats on another pipe rescue. Savory's are good smoking pipe. Another Dunhill take over you may run across are H. Simmons, their comparable to the Savory's.

Parker, Hardcastle, Savory's, and Masta pipes were all made at the Parker-Hardcastle factory. Their shape catalogues overlap to a considerable extent.
Your Savory's shares a shape number with the Parker 1/8 bent poker, 283.
As far as I know Savory's wasn't a budget brand or anything. It was a midrange pipe just like Parker. Often they're a lot cheaper on eBay than a similar Parker just because the name isn't well-known in the U.S.

The other thing Savory's is remembered for is Savory's"Baby's Bottom" tobacco, re-issued by STG as Dunhill "BB1938."

Was the production moved to the Parker-Hardcastle factory after Savory was bought by Dunhill? The other question is when did they stop making Savory's. I passed on a Parker they had because the bowl rim was too damage.

I wish finding information about Savory pipes was as easy. Most sources call the Savory a Dunhill second but H.L. Savory & Co. started making pipes in 1886 and wasn't sold to Dunhill until 1932. How can a pipe company in business for 44 years before being sold be considered a "seconds" brand of pipes?

The first smoke. London Dock in my Savory. It suits you!
A classic shape, in a pretty well flaw-free smooth.
A good find, no?
