A quick role call here.
Does anyone still rely on the monthly sales catalogues from sites like P&C or SmokingPipes?
If you are anything like me, you swim around these sites often like a stalking Great White in search of stock and sale to sink your teeth into and the catalogues go largely ignored, if not for the occasional bathroom reading.
I cant imagine the money they spend on printing and mailing these rags out monthly. Not to mention the work that goes into the design and layout. They are very nicely done. Maybe if they gave up on this, they could save some money and at the same time put a little of what was saved into a sales promotion on the site for instance. Free shipping or a free bag of pipe cleaners would go further with me in stoking some TAD/PAD than traditional advertising measures.
Your thoughts?

I get them from P&C and a few cigar sites. Theres nothing in them that I dont see every single day. Most of the time they sit on my desk for 2 days and then go in the burn pile.
I'd love some free pipe cleaners every month

I only read the three that’s emailed to me. When I closed my account with P&C almost five years ago I told them what to do with their catalog....lol. Once in a while I still get a catalog from Thompson Cigars.

It used to be you'd find treasure. Sales and discounts not mentioned that are active but not posted on social media or on the front page of the site. P&C has a crossword puzzle that once solved, pointed to a sale. Knowing something was on sale then a site would do a 10% off sitewide event would be nice as I could combine things and it would stack up for a deeper duscount.
Sadly, 2019 has been a real bust. A few good sales at times and if you knew what to look for, could combine a sale and code. Still, they have been really small and few of them had. Even the catalogs have been really lackluster.
So as it stands, if this keeps up, its truly just junk mail to me.

I'm a magazine reader, I still subscribe to different publications that are still in print, and I enjoy receiving the catalogs from the pipe smoking vendors. I really enjoyed the Iwan Ries Catalogs. Believe it or not, I still like to read the local newspaper if you can find one.

It maintains a long standing tradition from the early days, so a yes vote here.
I have wondered about non computer users who order from the P&C catalog and if their orders are completely filled.

Believe it or not, I still like to read the local newspaper if you can find one. Right on, man. I subscribe to quite a few myself. I love having a coffee table steeped in easy reading. From the feel, to the smell, to the simple joy of finding something in mail that isn't a bill. haha
I subscribe to NatGeo, Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Wired, Fantasy & Science Fiction, and Car&Driver.
I just cancelled MAD. haha I bought a sub out of nostalgia- turns out my humour has changed some over the years.
Also Field&Stream, though I have yet to get my first issue.

I remember growing up in the 80s and 90s, I really relied on catalogues. I remember mowing a lot of lawns to buy swords, bb guns, and ninja stars out of the old Smokey Mountain Knifeworks catalogue. And nothing beat circling toys in the Sears catalogue every Christmas.

I voted "yep". I enjoy receiving catalogs from Pipes and Cigars and Cigars International. There's usually nothing I haven't already seen, but I like flipping thru them anyway.

I voted yes to the poll question, but not to the thread question... I like getting catalogues for things in which I'm interested. So I would welcome junk mail that is pipe or tobacco related. However, I don't get the junk mail from p&c or anywhere else. I'm like PhantomWolf though... As a kid, I used go love buying crap from joke catalogues or magic catalogues etc. I loved perusing them, circling the products that I wanted to buy.

Now that I think about it, I do the same thing now with pipe sites etc. Heck, eBay is essentially just a catalogue for the world's largest flea market when you think about it.

When a company stops producing the catalogues, it generally means employees who were putting each issue together are no longer needed, so they get fired. On top of that, there are people who are not directly paid by the company with the catalogue, but work for the printing company who lose money from their paycheck and may even get fired.

Case in point … I picked up the most recent P&C mag this morning with my coffee. What I found was pages and pages of stuff I would never buy. I guess if you're looking for value tobacco, bulk aromatics and cheap cigars it would be great.

My favorite was always the Edmund Scientific catalogue. Later the Crane Cams catalog.

Catalogues were the equivalent of the Internet for HiFi gear in the 60's &70's. I use to have stacks of them.

I like getting them and to actually flip through them and mark down something I want by folding a page. I hate having to search for an item on sites and with P&C there are things I didn't know they had until I flipped through their catalog. I also get some woodworking catalogs and my parts catalogs are invaluable when trying to identify a part needed to fix a piece of equipment. And yes I voted I like receiving them.

I closed all accounts a little over a month ago so haven't received any since. When I did, they went straight from my mailbox to the trash.

Pretty sure you can opt out of receiving them. There is an older pipe smoking segment of society that has no use for computers, and probably prefers to mail or call.
I like the calendar on the past, it allowed me to plan ahead for sales... haven’t gotten one the last few years, I missed tge window on getting them.
