I got this “Ash-Pak” in a lot...patent applied for. The Cumberland stem screws off. The other half is a screen with plastic frame / housing over it, and the end is screen as well...so nothing slips into the end of it. However, the device is large enough to fit a filterless cigarette in it. But I’m guessing that the heat would be a bit much for the plastic frame, and then if you smoked it right down to the end, it would be in contact with the end of the stem which is not metal. Anyone familiar?

Thanks for posting the ad, my Google search did not find that. Yes, especially given the age from 1930, could definitely be Bakelite which would make more sense.
That is all I could figure that it would be used for, to keep the cig ashes from falling.

I remember my father having a radio with a Bakelite case.Around 1951 or 52.,Its suppose to be heat resistant..What you have could well be Bakelite.

If you rub it hard enough to get some heat it will give off an odor that is somewhat sickly sweet. If you smell it then it's bakelite Since it's a phenolic resin it is pretty heat resistant. Most plastic ashtray's are phenolic.

Joe, Your unique smoker got me to thinkin bout this unusual little piece I picked up several years back... Here you can see the name of it... Being as I live in Pinehurst and the name of it is a "Pinehurst", I had to get it. ;-)
