Watching an Astros game today, they panned the audience and there was a little boy, baseball cap too big, safety pinned in back to make it fit. I went back to 1972, I had bought Ira my son a 410 Winchester Gold trigger crack barrel for Christmas. Local TV station had a shoot your Christmas gun spot on. I took him with his pinned hat, he was a small 6 yr old. When his time came up, I heard a Twitter because he was so small. Crack, he busted the first clay, crack he busted the second, at the third they were murmuring about his marksmanship, crack he broke the fourth, crack he broke the fifth, the crowd whooping and cheering I believe unnerved him, he missed the sixth. Coming back home he said I’m sorry Dad they made me nervous, I told him don’t you ever be sorry if you’ve tried your best. Memories.

Brad, thanks for sharing one of your many memories that most likely gives you a great inner felling and a special smile on your face.
That’s all I have left, some great fond memories. Still have many I’d much rather forget!!!

Still have many I’d much rather forget!!! I have some I would like to forget as well. Most of my good childhood memories are of times I spent with my grand mother. Those times were really good.

It's funny how certain images, sounds or smells trigger memories that have been tucked away for years.
Not only is that a great memory, but your boy did brilliantly.

Great story, Brad!
You actually took me back to when my best friend and I were that age and his grandfather taught us to shoot. Good old 410 double barrel was also our introduction to the world of shotguns. I was terrified when I saw how large the shells were compared to my .22. haha Such a wonderful man. I learned so much from him.
A couple weeks back, I bought my friend's boy his first BB gun. I gave him a quick BRM lesson in the back yard and he was nailing cans within minutes. Didn't take long once I taught him how to hold it correctly. haha I guess kids these days don't watch much Bonanza or the A-Team... It was a great feeling seeing him succeed at something new. All you fathers out there are lucky guys.

Great memories for you.
I seem to forget things I wish to remember, and the things I wish I could forget are permanently imbedded in my brain.
