Got a picture from my Daughter, my Grandson is in it before there 60 mile hike. A condition towards his Eagle Scout Badge. They are at the Philmont Camp in New Mexico for 12 days. Made me remember when he was 12, he came for a few days, wanted to learn dead reckoning and compass skills, I set him up and pointed him towards the middle of the cane field, it’s over 1/2 mile long, cinched up my bull barrel Rugar on him, told him, no playing with that, if a coyote comes, you don’t run, knell down and shoot him. His Dad called later that night, I guess he told his Dad he holstered my pistol, his Dad was not pleased with me. I told him, I’ve had a 22 rifle since I was 5, kids nowadays are not entrusted enough with responsibility, they gotta learn.

I couldnt agree more. I taught all of my kids how to shoot early on. Started with a 22, moved up to a 12 gauge. I'm looking forward to teaching my new batch

Always wanted to go to Philmont, but we couldn't afford it. I hoped I would get to go with my son but he wasn't interested in Scouting. I learned to shoot in the Cub Scouts at age 10,and I have had a 22 since I was 11. Edit: started at 10, not 20.🙃😕
