In the past 40 years or so...I haven't seen one pipe smoker...however, I have made a good friend or two through the forums. AJ was the first....funny, he and I hit it off right away and have been in pretty much constant contact...like every day or two for the past 7 years...then I had the pleasure of meeting with Josh (roadsdiverged) and while we don't talk every day, I count him as close as a brother and I feel he feels the same way. Reason I mention this is that with a few exceptions, I have found that pipe smokers seem to be honest and worthy of true friendship...something that I don't encounter with other humans. Seems we are a distinct breed.

I have two neighbors within a mile of where I live that have been smoking a pipe longer than me. At times we get together and enjoy an evening smoke and a couple of good beers from local breweries.

I still see the odd pipe smoker. I saw two in June. One was an old man smoking a cob. The other was a man driving a van smoking his pipe. I've never seen a woman smoking a pipe - EVER. We had friends over the other day. It was a good day and the children were bouncing on the trampoline. I lit up my pipe and the visiting child said, 'Are you smoking?' I said, 'yes, but it's different than cigarettes.' She said something along the lines that I looked distinguished. I took it as a compliment. Interesting. I've never seen a woman smoke a pipe, but I've seen a lot of women smoking cigars.

sperrytops.......you would be surprised how many women smoke a pipe or cigar in the Dakota’s. My last trip to Montana I met a mother and daughter that smoked a pipe often.
