Haven't had a bad blend from Sutliff. Count Pulaski is one favourite.

I really want to try Mixture 79 now. I love cube but burley tobacco.

Halberg AS owns MacBaren. Skandinavisk Holding AS owns STG. STG is the biggest pipe tobacco producer in the world.

Thanks Charlie.
Sutliff makes ALL of my favorite tobaccos. I toured their operations a few years back with a few gents from another forum...that was eye opening in many ways. I'm glad things have worked out with MacBaren...though it did mean my friend (John Schone) was no longer needed once the merger was all ironed out.
Why this article states that Mixture 79 is NOT an aromatic is beyond me. It's definitely an aromatic. It's got some anisette, vanilla, whiskey...and a complimentary touch of old-lady perfume. When I toured Sutliff, our guide pointed up to a large container which he said was their musk oil match. Earlier, Sutliff used real musk oil as part of the Mix 79 topping, obtained the way all perfumers used to get it...from the caudal glands of the male musk deer. But musk deer became an endangered species, so companies began to create synthetic musk...which is what Sutliff did as well. So yep...there's a touch of synthetic musk as part of the topping...and that info came straight from our Sutliff tour guide. But don't get me wrong...there are definitely smokers who like it, or it wouldn't still be around after all these years. The smokers I know who bought it did so to try it out of sheer curiosity. One of them is a very open minded smoker...bought a large tub (I think it was 2 lbs)...and after giving it his best effort, gave the rest away after a few bowls. You'll either like it or hate it...doesn't seem like there's any inbetweeen; give it a try...it's the only way you'll know personally.
Oh...and regarding their #1 aromatic? If you like a good aromatic and haven't tried their Vanilla Custard...you need to get some.

They've made giant strides since the Altadis days and are an important part of my cellar (and budget).

I can only add that thanks to Gary in the Arizona pipe club reaching out to Sutliff, their support of the local pipe club has been well received and appreciated.
If you do not live near a pipe club, you too are able to receive free samples to try out and offer your help raise or criticism.... feel free to PM me for info and I can put you into contact with them.

I bought a pouch from the market last week and found it was not sealed at all. It was very dry inside so I told the clerk and exchanged it for PA. I havent seen a pouch before with no seal whatsoever just a piece of scotch tape to keep it from falling open. I guess I should try ordering a couple ounces in bulk.

clintonvilleleather ...my guess is that it was opened and the market you shopped at didn't do the right thing (return it to the distributor or pitch it). That's not how it came from Sutliff. You can get it for 2.24 / oz at Pipes & Cigars.

That was a great read! Now I need to order some more Vanilla Custard. I enjoy several Sutliff tobaccos, including the Virginia slices and Molto Dolce.

You can get it for 2.24 / oz at Pipes & Cigars. It was mostly a cigarette shop. They had a 6 pack box of pouches and they were all not sealed. He refunded me and told me he was returning them to his salesman.
