Hood and punk that I am, since I carry loose in my pocket, I still say the problem is not too many guns. Just too many guns in the wrong hands. Bet you wore a jelly roll, pegged pants, leather jacket and Cuban heel boots... Hell, you probably still wearing them.

Yes indeedy. I spent the first three sinful years of my life there. Last time I was there was 1963, passing thru on the way to Arizona.

The car was loaded so I couldn’t even see that. No regrets, with apologies to Cap’t Henry Miller Shreve.

Lived in Shreveport when I was very young. No memory of it, but I never got the impression that my folks liked it.

My mom’s family. One bootlegger uncle owned a nightclub. Another had a domino parlor. I guess they would have known all the “right people.”

QI My Dad had a pool hall and taxi cabs downtown Abbeville, later he had a nightclub called the Halfway club, halfway between Kaplan and Abbeville. In the pool hall I know he had a blackjack, DONT know what pistol he had, I know he got a new pinball machine in pool hall, town bully everyone was afraid off came and pissed all over his new pinball, Pop jumped over the counter and bam the bully went down, Dad whipped and kicked him about a block and a half on city sidewalk to a honky thonk Told him come back I’ll kill you. Fast forward 45 yrs to my wife’s niece wedding, I came in the hall with wife, I look like my Dad, old man there went white and uttered my Fathers nickname, seems wife’s niece married into bully’s family.

My uncle, a Walls graduate and Merchant Marine Combat Medal recipient, was a pro wrestler and a boxer. He owned a jazz club and "gentleman's club" in Port Arthur. He was also an enforcer for the Teamsters. The only gun that I know of that he ever owned was the Remington Nylon 66 that he gave me. He actually gave me 2 22lr rifles. I don't think he needed one.

Not much Revolver activity here for a while so I thought to post my two nickel plated Colts. The "Commando" from 1943. The "Cobra" from 1964.

Just a Pimp at heart, it seems, with the nickel plated guns. At least there are NO mother-of-pearl grips!

I can be reasonably confident with these two. Modern ammunition makes the .38 Special a bit more effective if ever needed. Their weight means they can be carried without too much hassle. I found larger magnum revolvers often stayed home as they were heavier and bulkier. The Commando fits nicely into a WWII USN Pilot shoulder holster, the Cobra in a pocket holster on on my belt in a belt holster.
I still have a Redhawk in .44 Magnum if that is ever needed. I am not in bear country much anymore except around the house.

I knew a lady in Taos with a Series 70 Colt 1911 in .38 Super. Nickel plated with pearl handles. Looks good on a lady's belt.

While shopping in Williams Az. just west of Flag, a gal was wearing the same as she was the proprietor, I could tell by by her method of carry and equipment/ demeanor she knew how to use it. If I was single I would have asked her out to dinner.

Reminds me: has the .30 Super caught on at all? I don’t see much sign of it. Trouble is, the relatively recent improvements in 9mm Luger performance have made it very difficult for newbies to get much oxygen. The old saw that “9mms MAY expand, but the 45 will NOT shrink” kind of applies to .30 Super as well. 9mms DO expand nowadays and their performance even threatens the 45’s throne. I don’t see much future for the 30, either ballistically or economically.

True words spoken, Bob.
Advancements in projectiles and propellants have been remarkable in the last several years. I have been at live demonstrations on this issue, facts do not lie. If a 9mm cannot get the job done, I need a rifle.

The 30 looks good the more you look at it. It's faster than +P 9mm and expands to 90% the size. Main advantage I see is that you get a couple more rounds in a small gun. I don't expect I'll be buying one m

Several years ago I was prospecting with friends and family. We had brought our handguns because we were miles off pavement and about 2-3 miles north of the Mexican border. We decided to plink at the end of the day and among our chosen targets was a modern shovel we had broken the handle on. We started off shooting it with a wide variety of 9mm ammo. Hollow point +P, solids and also some 38 Special jacketed soft points. Some of the 9mm was ball. All those rounds were dimpling and denting the blade, but it was holding up. When we commenced to shooting it with 230gr 45ACP ball, the blade began to get torn up. Every hit punched through and peeled the steel back as it exited. It did not hold up for more than a couple of mags. Bullet weight matters on a hard target. I am not a 45 snob, my carry guns are 9mm and 38 because I prefer a quicker recovery time between shots. 38 Special in a good medium framed revolver will be the last handgun I keep and I will shoot them until I am too feeble to do so. The larger bores are a ton of fun though.

Yeah, the idea was kinda supposed to be 9mm performance in a .380 form-factor without losing capacity, right? The P365 kinda made that unnecessary.
