I would have to assume that the engraved signature on the pipe was authenticated? Otherwise...yikes.
Did any of you guys see a couple years ago where an eBay seller was offering some pipes which were said to have come from the estate collection of Dr. Scholl? I don't think those went for 5k. ;-)

Other than the signature it looks like an ordinary 50-150.00 pipe. I’ve looked at kaywoodie pipes and I just found a very nice bulldog or Rhodesian straight grain for 125.00 that would fetch much more if brand was changed. Do kaywoodies have a screw in tenon? wvsmokeshop.com/KaywoodieStraightGrainPipeB.aspx
