My son ordered me a box of 50 Bic lighters..43 dollars..Not really a lot of saving. They're a buck apiece in the stores..I'm set on lighters for a while though.

It sounds like you are set for a long time.
I bought several some years back really cheap online, I think it was Ebay. Thanks to my son, they were all gone in a couple months.... I guess he thought he was the Johnny Appleseed of planting lighters on others.
After that I went to Zippo.... still always have a disposable butane lighter on hand, redundancy is good.

Sounds like he got them from Amazon, those are around $1.16 each. Around here they are $2.89 bought separately so I've bought that same 50 box once a year for the past 3 years.

I wish I'd tried the Zippo with pipe insert sooner … also keep a few Bic's and tons of matches on hand still.

Bic is missing market share by not producing a side firing lighter.
In the past, a member here said he always chose a Pink Bic so it wouldn't be stolen at his cigarette smokers majority workplace.

That's not a bad deal though.
One of my best disposable lighters is a djeep lighter. Never had an issue with it.

I have a fancy custom Zippo my brother-in-law made me, but I've never been able to get it working properly. No matter how much I fill it, it runs out of juice the same day. I do coat the insert with Vaseline, too. It has the pipe insert now. It's even Zippo's Armor model.

Carried a Zippo for 45 years but, no matter what sort of fancy contraption ya put on it I tend to burn the rim, changed to Bic's several years ago and never had a problem. As far as someone stealing mine, aint gona happen, put it back in my pocket when done. Besides where am I gona go other then home to smoke a pipe? So that eliminates theft right there and I don't keep company with thieves.

That's a great idea; the pipe insert was free, too.

Mail it back to Zippo, in Bradford.
Even under the best of circumstances, a Zippo runs out after two or three days, but it should definitely last more than one day.
They can fix the hinges to get a better seal and mail it back to you. (free!)

Disposable lighters are way the hell better than inexpensive refillables.

The artwork on the bic lighters in the 7-11s is getting really trippy.

I buy several bic's at a time. I keep lighters in my daily go-bag, my tobacco bag, my truck and my pocket. I do have a Zippo with a pipe insert, but it always seems to be out of fuel when I need it. Too many years in the bush and the back country, if I dont have a flashlight, a knife, a firearm and dependable lighter on hand, I start getting antsy. Im a lot of fun at parties (not).

I take a BIC and matches on the airplane, (er, not to smoke therein, but for my destination.) but otherwise, good refillables are my choice.

Can't beat the reliability of a bic.

Yes and isn't it ironic they (and disposable razors) came to market as the concept of green recycling was beginning.

Love my bics too...I have the Zippo both regular and pipe model and a Beattie Jet lighter that I got from Sante. I use the Beattie alot but I use the bics even more so.

there's always a bic close at hand around here...the wheels on my two Zippos are worn down, and need a trip back to the factory, but the bics do their job so well ,I never think to send them in.
