A neighbor and very good friend had her daughter and her daughter's boy friend visit her from out of state..A couple of nights ago they all came and sat on my porch. The boy friend brought 5 cans of beer with him and drank them all. Then he asked me if I would give him some more.I told him that because of some medical conditions I'm under doctors orders not to drink alcohol, and I haven't drank any in almost 40 years. Then I told him that I didn't have any bear..He got a bit miffed like he thought I just didn't want to give him any.I offered him Pepsi. He said he doesn't drink that stuff. The next night he went to visit a neighbor who had beer..If the only reason he visited me was to get free beer I would just as soon he didn't come back..Am I wrong in feeling this way? They've gone back home now and I may never see them again..I don't like feeling this way about folks. In his case though I can't help it.

Your gut feeling is right Larry. The guy is a bum.....If he pounded five beers and asked you for yours, he is a leech. I would diplomatically let my friend know that this guy is trouble for their daughter...they may or may not get through to her. But since they are good friends, I think that they would appreciate your observation, and I am just guessing that you would confirm what they already knew or suspected...your input could help a great deal. If not, you might start the new version of the Hatfield and McCoy's.

You are right. Hopefully she'll wise up and dump him besotted arse. I hate it when my friends daughters that I watched grow up pick scumbags for boyfriends. There's really not that many good men out there, at least by my standards.

You're not wrong to feel the way you do, Larry. Bum and besotted arse seem to fit him well. Incredibly rude works too.

With the exception of Josh (roadsdiverged) can't say much for the male population that I see when I go out in public (not very often...can't really stand the "public").

He was already rude by bringing 5 beers and not offering anyone else one ... just icing on the rotten cake after that. We're she my daughter, that boy would have received a little "man talk" about manners.

If it mere my daughter, I would have whipped his butt. I had a daughter call me the other day to let me know that a young man might be calling me soon. She asked me not to scare him off please, as she likes him. She's 19 and lives in another state.
I pulled out a Bowie knife with a 12" blade once and slammed it on a table in front of a young man, then asked him if he had any questions. He had none.
Your feelings and instincts on this are entirely right, it's even harder when it's not your own daughter but you still care for her and don't want to see her hurt.

5 beers sounds like he had one before even coming over. I cannot imagine going to a stranger's house and ASKING for anything, let alone show up with something and not offer any. I agree the guy is a turd, but making mention of this fact to parents/daughter will likely solidify the daughter's decision to date/save him. That's how it seems to work with girls and turdy guys, no?

Dont feel bad feeling how you feel. The guy sounds like real trash. Social skills lacking, respect for others very low with selfishness on high.

Larry it’s been my experience, Leave It Alone, some parents get crotchety when you critique their siblings or their friends, like you said they are gone pecan.

Reminds me of a holiday party we had at my house. My wife’s cousin showed up with a 12 pack of Budweiser. He drank several and then went in the cooler and started drinking other beers that I provided and then some moonshine I made. Later on, he came up to me with a jar that he took out of my cabinet and asked me if he could take some moonshine home. As he was leaving I noticed that he packed up the last few Budweiser’s he had bought with him to take home. Never offered anyone a beer, drank the communal beers even though he had his own, was doing shots of moonshine and then took his beers and moonshine home along with a very generous doggie bag for himself. He got busted for DWI not soon after (not that night) and he knocked up his other cousins ex girlfriend.
Real winner

As a late friend would have observed, "That boy wasn't brung up right." If that observation is true, at some point you have to overcome your raising and begin acting decently. That boy has a long ways to go. FWIW: I believe you acted with great restraint.

around hear we call a guy like that a "sorry-arse prick"...I don't get it but ,ladies love outlaws. Hopefully she'll outgrow that, but most times guys like that just become old "sorry-arse pricks".
you're better than me; I'd have asked him for a beer ,and let my dog drink it!
