Wow. That's somethin'! Don't you all in Brooklyn have some kind of floating water park, or was that just a "plan"?

I have a feeling you'll need to go really early ... during the winter ... in a storm ... Sounds like a great re-zoning for what used to be a garbage truck parking lot ... nice improvement for sure!

Should make it easier to dump the bodies.

Darin Yes and no. On one hand there’s been many improvements, especially with land use. On the other hand, most people can’t afford to live there anymore. I used to rent and sell apartments in New York (We New Yawkers refer to Manhattan as New York). Take a family with two kids. If they were to buy a 3 bedroom condo or coop, they’re looking at $2,000,000 plus. A real three bedrooms rental starts around 4,500-$5,000 (and that’s on the low end). Of course there are exceptions, but it’s just not realistic for most people anymore. The family that’s going to purchase will have other expenses and most Co-op boards require 18 months in reserves. It’s not all bleak. My friend bought a one bedroom by City Hall in 1994 for $250,000. Last year he sold it for $1.5 million. He moved to CT, bought a big 2 bedroom all cash and still has most of the sale proceeds. ? I miss the gritty, bleak, crime infested days!

Definitely more "real" than the gentrification happening to these areas.
We have seen a similar effect to our real-estate here in AZ with the Californians selling their $500,000 to $1M homes and moving here.
I rode that wave pretty hard up until the housing crash of 2007-8 ... ouch! It's recovering quite well now, though.

Sam, you can revisit those gritty, crime infested days in thousands of hours of movies and TV shows. It's all recorded for posterity. Some seem to think that your mayor longs for those days, too. I have no opinion on goings on in NYC any more than I do about Mars.

I miss the days of summer when the small town streets of Sullivan County were filled with the Jewish women and children walking to the store. And the weekends seeing the men walking along the streets and road sides. The summer residents of the bongalo colonies walking around and the smell of their food and baking. The madness around the Kosher hotels. But the one thing I miss the most is being able to go into a Katz's Bakery for a fresh made sandwich.
Yes, I grew up in Sullivan County.

@johnr There’s nothing like a pastrami sandwich from Katz’s. Ronv69 Taxi Driver, Rosemary’s Baby, Marathon Man, French Connection and The Taking of Pelham 123 are among my favorite ‘gritty New York’ movies.

My old neighborhood in Houston had a great feeling. Men chatting and smoking pipes on the business streets. Knowing all the waiters, tailors, barbers, shoe shine boys and all. Now the rich people have taken it over, cut down all of the trees and raised the prices out of reach for a working man.

Sullivan County is still the same, more or less.

New York City has miles and miles of beautiful, natural beach already. Building a special artificial beach for use by the very rich seems kinda silly.
Glad it’s not tax dollars paying for this.

My favorite “gritty New York” is a comedy — After Hours. A businessman gets trapped in SoHo at night due to the lack of a subway fare. Hijinx ensue.

There are no beaches in Manhattan
Kansas😀. PS Well at least not recently with the reservoir filled to capacity, that is if you consider those shores a beach.😁
