Gates of Light that is, in the deepest ,darkest corner of my little celler...not one but two tins{or tubs if you like}one dated10/9/11 ,and the second 8/1/07...some very old Dunhill tins and tin of GLP Maltese Falcon too, but I'll stick to the subject.
like so many of you ,I ,at one time ,was in the habit of grabbing two tins of whatever tickled my taste buds. Thank goodness ,while in the grips or the VooDoo Queen ,I was stocking up on things like Annie Kake , LA Red, and such ,and must have picked up two of these back in 07 ,smoked one and forgot one...picking up another four years later.
I remember liking this one ,but I think Father time has really nailed the 07...I cracked and jarred the tin and when I popped the lid I got hit with the aroma of old raisins. Better still ,once set afire the aroma overflowed into the realm of taste with such a powerful, sweet , creaminess that it left a mouth feel closely akin to that of my wife's homemade applebutter.
The one thing I did wrong was I rushed this tobacco into a pipe with no dry-time at all; so relights where an issue ,but the top and bottom of the old tin were bulging and once I got a whiff of the stuff, waiting for it to dry was out of the question...I'll know better in the morning.

It is nice when a plan comes together!
I am in the same place, I need to start smoking more...I have a lot of blends that have age on them, but I do not want to be at a point like a guy in our pipe club where many blends have peaked and upon opening declined...one was an old tin of Cope's Escudo.
