We've all heard "Virginias are best in a narrow taller bowl", and "wide short bowls smoke English best". I don't know how much truth there is to these statements. Some swear by it, others say it makes no difference. Me? I have noticed some things smoke better in certain pipes, regardless of bowl shape. But, I have not heard, "this is what smokes Burley best", besides cobs. Does anyone have a preference for briar bowl shape, when it comes to Burley?

Nope...smoke burley flake in all of them...enjoy it equally in all of them. Not much help here.

Darin swears by his Burley/ Cob smokes.
So much of it all is subjective, and your taste buddery, or in my case lack thereof.

A pipe made for smoking tobacco is good for Burley, but there is no special design that works best. Try the particular blend in several pipes and see what happens.

Darin swears by his Burley/ Cob smokes. Amen!! When it comes to Briar shapes for Burley, I reach for Billiards / Lovat / Lumberman and other straight sided, not too large, standard shapes. However, I almost NEVER smoke straight Burley in anything other than a Cob.

I love to smoke burleys in a Jake Hackert cob.

I smoke a lot of burley in my cobs and often shallow bowled pots and scoops.

Definitely cobs. For Briar larger bowls seem better but I would pick a cob first.

I honestly prefer VA/VAPers in briar and Burley in cobs. For me, it's that I can taste a little of the cob at times. So clean, sweet blends like VAs, I can notice the cob. Burley seems to almost benefit from it.

Cobs or Billiards for me. Or, whatever is handy.

I've found cobs work best for burley, but only now that I think about it. This thread has been an epiphany for me.
