Dark burley - 2 parts Unflavored cavendish- 2 parts Perique- 1 part Flavoring - black rum sprayed on dried tobacco Aged - 1 week under pressure
This is an enjoyable smoke, but lacks complexity. I’m wondering if anyone has a burley/cav blend that they’ve spiced up with something. I love Latakia, but I don’t want it to overpower the blend. I also suffer extreme tongue bite from even small amounts of va, so that might be out.
Thoughts?

Where did you get your source tobacco? Was it cased, or unprocessed? Unflavored Cavendish generally doesn't have much taste, and is added to either deliver aromatic flavorings or lighten the punch of a blend. Maybe adding one part of Turkish leaf or 1 part of Cyprian Latakia will help enhance the depth a bit. Aging in a press helps as well.

Adding a lighter, toasted Burley and decreasing the Cav to 1/2 part would bring some balance maybe. I also agree that some Turkish would help. Perhaps start with 1/2 to 1 part. Lastly, toasting the Burley until almost dry and then spritzing on your casing and then repeating this a few times does wonders. It will need to rest for awhile after doing this though. Try a little molasses or chocolate syrup mixed into the rum.

I get all my tobacco through www.pipesandcigars.com/ The Burley was there AAA Burley, the cavendish was from Green River (it's treated with sugar water, so isn't really an aromatic). As far as I know, all there tobacco has already been cased to some degree...though I'm not sure of their process. I like the idea of adding Turkish or Latakia. I'm certainly more familiar with Latakia, but I love experimenting!

Well I did a little bit of all your advice. I had the EXACT amount of Smyrna Oriental laying around to be able to add 1 part of it to my mixture, bringing the total to 2 parts burley 2 parts Black Cav. 1 part Perique 1 part Smyrna oriental I then dried the tobacco in the oven at 170 for a while, and misted it with a black rum/molasses mixture until damp. I have it back in a bell jar in the cellar under pressure for another week. Fingers crossed! Thanks for the helpful hints...unless it doesn't work
