Hey there,
A relative of mine knows I enjoy a good bowl of tobacco. So, as a thank you for some help I gave them they offered to by me some tobacco of my choice and amount. Well, I have a huge cellar of tobacco which mostly consists of readily available blends of all sorts. Including plenty of my favorite daily smokes. So I was thinking of asking for some higher-end, harder to get blends and wondered if you guys had any recommendations.
They are ordering online and I only feel comfortable having them buy from an established dealer like P&C, smokingpipes, etc...
TL;DR
Got any unique/hard to find tobacco recommendations for me?

It would be helpful to know what longstanding flavor profile preferences you have. We can go from there...

If its hard to find, it might be a while. Plenty of blends that arent so much hard to find, more like when available are gone in a flash. Stuff from Esoterica, Gawith and more.

Basically I want to kinda start collecting the harder to get/more expensive tobaccos since I have pretty much all I need of the more popular available blends. Haven't been smoking long enough to know what the more prized tobaccos are.

Funny you mention Esoterica. When the offer came about that was the first one I checked availability on the internet. Currently out of stock everywhere I checked.

Plenty of hard to get tobacco out there. Again, Esoterica has many good one's as does Gawith and more. Many times its easier to find at a B&M than online. There's also plenty of expensive blends too that are readily available. Sort your search by price and you'll find plenty. Don't discount cheaper bulk blends though. Many are great and will be amazing with years of aging and proper storage. Sutliff 515 RC-1 is a prime example. Hearth & Home Anniversary Cake is another. Remember, price and rarity does not always equal good.

B&Ms around here are not that good. I live in a fairly rural area and the B&Ms here are more smoke shops than legit tobacconists. The only pipe tobacco they sell are PA and CB.

You're welcome and same here. The local B&M is more a cigar shop and has little to do with pipe tobacco. My friend Cramptholomew has had more success with shops 45 minutes away or further in finding more hard to get tobacco. He travels more than I and it has helped him create a nice cellar. So whenever you find yourself out of town, explore.

I wouldnt get too tied up in a name. But some of the pricier ones that I enjoy are blends from Watch City. They're still not expensive, but higher than C&D and the like. Wilke also has some excellent blends, as does Peretti.
Harder to get blends would be Samuel Gawith, Robert McConnell, Rattrays, Gawith Hoggarth, Astleys, Esoterica and Dan's Salty Dogs.
Good luck in your hunt.

You may enjoy Samuel Gawith blends (not always in stock) such as 1792, Full Virginia Flake, Grousemoor, and Kendall Cream Deluxe Flake. Also, J.F. Germain's Rich Dark Flake (I like it better than Stonehaven because it's more Virginia forward).

I second the Hearth and Home Anniversary Kake. I broke open an older tin and it seems to age really well.

I haven't anything to add...you have some good ideas here and a start for your hunt for what you may be looking for...I'll add an easy to get blend called Butternut Burley which is a wonderful tobacco...if you are a hankerin' for an aro...may I suggest Blackberry brandy as another good one to enjoy...that is about all I got on this particular subject....and welcome to the Patch where you will find the best of the best in the way of good people.

I second the Butternut Burley. Got multiple mason jars full of the stuff.

I second the Hearth and Home Anniversary Kake. I broke open an older tin and it seems to age really well. It has been added to my list of contenders. Even though H&H as a brand was not on my radar, I will check out this blend.

I have yet to open them because I'm afraid I'll like them too much and when I run out they'll be out of stock. lol. A pipe smokers dilemma ...

Anniversary Kake (in bulk) is a wonderful blend. Ive had it aged, from Walt, and it ages very well. Louisina Red is another one from them that I've started cellaring deep

Full Virginia Flake can also be found (sometimes more readily than tins) in 250 gram boxes... I cellar both, and find no diff in quality between them. Same with most other Samuel Gawith blends.
