Listed today at SP: Sutliff 507-S Stoved Virginia - $27.00lb.
With all the blending going on here lately, I thought it might be of interest.

The 507-s is indeed a good tobacco. I need to grab a pound or so whenever life gets settled down again.

Bump. Some reviews are starting to come in...very positive. Hard to beat the price.
"Once the bright Virginia leaf is stoved, it offers mildly fermented and tangy, rich, deep, dark fruit, a lot of earth and sugar, and very light lemon notes. The strength is a couple of steps past the mild level, while the taste just passes the medium mark. The nic-hit is hair more obvious than the strength threshold. No chance of bite or harshness. Burns a tad slow, very cool and clean with a sweetly consistent flavor from start to finish. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, and needs an average number of relights. Has a very pleasant, lightly lingering after taste and room note. Does well in the pipe as it is, though I do recommend a smallish bowl. As a mixer - which it was designed to be - it adds depth and dimension to any blend you choose to invent."

Is this a good tobacco to smoke by itself or only for blending?
- What would one blend somethimg like this with? I havnt thought about blending anything myself due to low experience with different types of tobacco.

I've smoked it plain but I prefer it mixed with other VAs. It compliments 515 RC nicely.

I've smoked it plain but I prefer it mixed with other VAs. It compliments 515 RC nicely. I just got some in today and oh boy! This smells great! That vinegar tang is there and I instantly thought of 515. I cannot wait to smoke some and start paring it up with others. The idea train is going nuts!

I didn't t have a lot to play around with (yet), but I went with a 30/70 mix, 70% being 515, and it was nice. I took the rest of what I had and threw it in a big jar with some perique, bright va, 515, and stoved red. I sealed it up and dated it and put it at the bottom of my cellar. It's going to sit there untouched for a few years.
I really need to grab some more to do more experiments with. I really liked it.

I just smoked a bowl of this and its quite nice. I'll be keeping some for the cellar to smoke and some for blending. It could make for some pretty interesting blends.

What got me into Virginia blends was stoved Virginia. 27.00 a lb is a great price. I bet some P & C bulk pressed burley or anniversary kake would mix great with a stoved Virginia. I’m smoking some pressed burley kake now and it’s naturally sweet, nutty, hints of cocoa and very smooth.
