in the "sunshine state" last week, we found an Edwards Pipe shop on Florida ave. The owner was a heck of a nice fellow ,just a great costumer service person. When he learned we were from Richmond ,he warned me the ungodly tobacco taxes{a very cool thing to do ,I think} and pointed me to a sale rack of Lane tobaccos at 4ozs for 10 bucks. I picked one I've not had, LL7, and after a long rant about tobacco taxes and the number of people it's put out of work, we moved on.
Not very far away we found The Mark Twain Tobacco Shop. While the sign sed OPEN the door was locked up tight...the shop-keeper nextdoor smiled and told us "Mary" ,the owner, had been robbed only a short time back and I had to knock. Once inside I found Mary to be a very sweet lady in her late sixties {a guess} who had nothing good to say about our government and showed me around her almost empty shop, as she explained that the high taxes made it impossible for her to restock. One pipe ,ten or twelve packs of ciggs ,and about twelve ,almost empty 5lb tubs of tobacco was her entire inventory. In spite of her plight she insisted on giving me a 1 oz sample of anything I wanted when I purchased of her "Mark Twain Special". So, so sad to see a such a nice lady driven out of operation by high taxes.

Taxes on tobacco in this state has driven most of us to the internet for our purchases...sadly the B&M stores are just about gone...probably the only place in Florida where you can find more B&M stores is Miami...although I refuse to go back there having left it 20+ years ago.
